How do I git gud? I've been using a Karenfag team on Battle Spot and haven't won once. I've EV trained them all, they all just happened to have good natures and ok ivs, and I've got a semi-good strategy down.

Am I just a shitty trainer?

Well, it was Doubles.

Heliolisk is all right in VGC on weather teams. Solar Power with Charizard-Y hurts a lot, and Dry Skin can help with Rain teams. It's also faster than Garchomp and can paralyze non-Lum variants with Glare, or just Electrify its Earthquakes to deal minimal damage to Heliolisk and to possibly fuck up Garchomp's partner.

I think I've finally managed to make a decent Karenfag team to use on Battle Spot after trial and error. Decent as far as a scrub like me can consider anyway, just hit 1600 on rated singles after floundering in 1400's the last 2 seasons. There are certain things that my team probably can't handle too well like Sand Rush Excadrill and Trick Room teams but oh well, for the most part the common threats can be handled by the team.

It's UU/RU/NU shit, but it's been working out well enough so far for my Karenfaggotry. Bonus points for managing to fit in each generation. HP Fire Greninja was on the team originally but I replaced it with Noivern since it couldn't switch it as easily and I wanted Ground/Fighting resistance. Noivern only carries Toxic to surprise things like Sableye which the team can't reliably 2HKO,

I've found a pretty good balance between a highly competitive Smogon team and a Karenfag team. It's as easy as trying your best to fit six pokemon from OU you like on a team. I've gotten to 1600s on Showdown with a team of Mega Manectric, Lando-T, Bisharp, Azumarill, Latios, and Infernape. 3/6 of these are true bros and the rest I have absolutely no problems with.

They're surprisingly effective. Lanturn differentiates itself from Rotom-W with Heal Bell and the ability to wall most electrics like Manectric, Zapdos, Thundurus and Raikou. Cobalion has the defenses and Reflect to take Dark/super effective hits for Justified/WP boost and handles Venusaur, Amoonguss, Bisharp, Tyranitar, Mamoswine and Kangaskhan well. Porygon-Z makes an amusing Aegislash check too.

Double Dance set like what Terrakions do with Rock Polish and Swords Dance. Choose the one that fits the situation but if you're lucky then you could pull off both. I don't actually use Porygon-Z much although it's my biggest fav since there's priority everywhere, but when it gets a setup opportunity it's pretty decent. Adaptability Tri Attack hits hard enough and has good coverage with Dark Pulse/Shadow Ball now that Steel's lost its resistance to Dark/Ghost.

As much as a 31/31/31/31/31/31 is desired, I usually just go for superior on the stat I need most,

Such with Noivern, amp up that Speed or with Talonflame, just Proud of it's Power.

Less Work, about 95% of the same results.

My team is generally a mix of smogonmons and karenmons. Lately I've been using a dualscreens team with klefki as my lead and its fucking amazing.

I usually lead with klefki and set up screens. After that I let it die and switch over to either Mawile or Pinsir and set up. After that, mega evolve and anally devastate everything.

It can provide some very pleasant results on rare occasions. I remember becoming giddy when I somehow sweeped a team on Battle Spot with him.

But does Masquerain have any other use at all? Or is that the best one can get?

Heliolisk is solid bro material on my rain team. I've tried choice sets and life orb sets and it hits fast and hard. Best part is in the rain the life orb damage gets literally soaked up by its dry skin hp regen. Choice is also good, modest scarf, or timid spec is what I use.plus, thunder never misses in rain so it's an electric cannon. It also soaks up thunder waves and ghost attacks. Switching in to gengar and eating up a shadow ball is hilarious

Here's what I do.
Make a list of all your favorites/bros of each type for each gen.
Play around with them with a team builder (Smogon/PO/etc).
You should have more than enough pokemon you actually like to be able to build a good team with. I know you want to use the team you beat story with, but don't limit yourself pokemon-wise.

In my experience, Natures matter more than IVs (which isn't to say IV don't, they just won't make you a better player). You should be winning and losing due to your decisions with switches, checks and picks.

I once went online with a Dusclops, a Mismagius and a random golem i got in a Wonder trade. I managed to get a couple wins with them.

And I don't mean "OU: The Team," there's probably a good 120 or so pokemon that are viable (of course, some of them need to be used for a specific reason,) you just need to learn how to team build.
