What's the point of having backwards compatibility with games over 10 years old (which I'm sure is a chore for Gamefreak to maintain from a technical standpoint every new gen) if it can't be used to transfer your record of "cathing em all." At the very least, you shouldn't have to have a living dex to complete the next game's dex, just the fully evolved form of everything.
