The city themes were good, and both legendary battles themes are good, as well as the E4 and Champion. However the gym theme brought down everything

They tried something different, but it failed. I can't really remember any theme, save for Lysandre's battle theme.

To be fair though, in the music department, Gen V was a tough act to follow.

There is so much happening at the same time that it becomes a mess. Also, the lack of instruments was a little glaring imo. Electronic bullshit like beeps and boops don't work a lot for the leaders in exception to Clemont (cause electric type)

Really I could listen to this theme for a longass time. I use for every online battle. It's gud.

Exactly. To me, it never reached a high point, just sort of droned on. It was underwhelming while somehow being in your face all the time.

I was pretty hype when this song was leaked. It's an ok song, but doesn't fit pokemon.

I thought it was at least interesting how they tried to change it up, so it's... different, but it's just not for everyone. It's the most unusual of the Gym Leader themes.

I loved Snowbelle, hatch all my stuff there, main battle theme I use is Xerneas/Yveltal. I dont understand how its in the same game as the Gym theme. I just wish the Subway theme from Gen 5 made a return

The gym battle themes sound like background noise, the wild and trainer battle music are bland, Lysandre's theme is too similar to the Team Flare theme E4 and Champ theme are forgettable. What the hell went wrong? Why didn't they stick to Gen V's style? It's like they tried to make it more orchestral but it ending up coming off as boring and unmemorable.

X/Y soundtrack was really hit or miss i reckon. Most of the songs were either absolute perfection, OR they where just plain confusing and not passionate/driven enough.

My absolute favorite has to be Coumarine city. The legatos across the whole orchestra accompanied by the slow harp strum made it truly feel like you were beside the ocean. Possibly the most chill song in the entire franchise tbh.

A close second is Geosenge town. I love how the whole piece is played like a conversation between instruments. The technique is called "call and response" as they take turns playing their pieces. Its structure has been woven perfectly to support the harmony with the subtle accompaniment to make it almost sound like a duet sung for a romantic couple.

One thing i've also noticed is that the team flare theme and the elite 4 theme sound like they sampled from the victini/trio legendary theme from gen 5. Similar tempo and instruments. I might sound crazy but that's just my two cents.

Sure we might have uninspired garbage like the gym leader theme, but i think the rest of the soundtrack can really stand out on it's own. A lot of the pieces sound like they've been inspired by traditional french music and really solidify an identity with each location/theme. I bet in 5 years when you come back to play gen 6 you'll feel like each musical piece couldn't be written any other way.
