Actually caught a shiny today. Got a Diance and wanted to try it out in friend safari, second encounter was this cute lil pup. Unfortunatly had poor IVs.
Still cute though, named him Suibhne (Scottish version of Sweeney)

Decided to breed HA eevee for a sylveon (here's to hoping we get a hyper voice move tutor).
Hatched the one on the top after 8 boxes, decided to keep going and got my HA one on the 15th box. I still had about four boxes left and hatched a THIRD one, too. T-Thanks, Masuda.

Both have 4-5 speed. Top will be a Glaceon, bottom will be my sylveon.

After 28 boxes I hatched this guy on Tuesday night right before I went to sleep. I'm so happy it came out with the gender I was looking for and it's Hidden Ability.

If the calculator says 30-31 but the IV checker doesn't indicate it's perfect, then it's 30. A calculator estimate means nothing when you have the definitive answer already. It's not secretly 31 Special Attack.

Do you remember your first shiny, /vp/? The first one where you went "whaaaaaaaaaaat is this?"

The Red Gyarados doesn't count, everyone gets it and it's a plot point. It's treated as something unique and the game doesn't tell you any pokemon can be shiny.

I knew pokémon could have different colors because of the anime but I knew it was rare as fuck.
Got me a Hoothoot in front of Johto's day care.
Sent it in to be trained so I would have a Noctowl just like Ash's. Then after some time with it inside the day care I started wondering if it would lose its different colors upon evolving. Panic and retrieving it followed.
Turned out It evolved into a Noctowl just like Ash's and everything was right in the world. I didn't really get to use it because it was very late game and I was just completing dex. Also got me a shiny Venomoth in the same save while leveling my Chansey on that route where it was caught in Kanto (I believed battling in the same route where the pokémon was caught would raise its happiness).

Then in Ruby a friend from school told me where the Sky Pillar was. I went inside and started exploring. On top I found that snake and picked a fight. Shit was black. It was my first shiny animation in the GBA, I didn't notice anything really different when the fight started, and if I did I thought it was because that fight was at a fucking hidden and very special place so it's normal to be treated specially. Then in the other day both me and my friend shared our experiences about the Sky Pillar, me telling the snake was black and him telling it was green. Internet was one restricted shit back then, nobody thought of fucking googling Rayquaza. Some days later, a third friend (who knew about our argument) said the pokémon was really green plus its sprite outside the battle was green too, which I didn't remember or noticed at all.

Meh, it was only 16 boxes. I've gone much further. And I my last shiny was a soft reset that took me 4,900 attempts. I like to consider myself somewhat patient when it comes to shiny hunting. Also, I've got nothing else to do in the game until ORAS comes out.

Competitive relies too heavily on your opponent having something to drop a stat of yours. What's the best option to hatch a pentaperfect shiny? Breeding with two 6 IV parents guarantees that your offspring has at least 5 perfect IVs, 6 even, but you're just as likely to get one with the wrong spread. Breeding with 6IV and pentaperfect increases slightly the likelihood to get a pentaperfect, but you also get 4IV offspring.
What should I do now? I've been doing the former and haven't got much luck with stats, and I'm a little bit worried that I hatch a shiny with wrong stats.
