I hoard eggs but its not for everyone. Sometimes its good, like getting shiny at the end of 10 boxes, and sometimes if bittersweet hatch a shiny at box 1 of however many you hoarded. And then of course its shit when you hatch 10 with nothing to show for it. Its really preference.

It really depends on hatch time IMO
If it has a reduced hatch rate, you might as well hatch it on the spot, but if you're MMing something like a Beldum, collecting boxes is the better alternative

I personally don't like to take chances with False Swipe. There are just too many ways that everything could go horribly wrong when a Pokemon only has 1 HP left, things you might even forget to account for, like recoil moves, Flame Body or Poison Point kicking in, etc.

Though next time, I recommend taking a ghost type if you're hunting for something with Take Down or Double-Edge.

I actually bought Y just for this purpose. The eggs come out faster if the pair are a perfect match, so I breed the two parents in English, trade them to my Y, then make the male French before trading over the new parents. A pair like that gets a 70% chance per cycle for an egg to show up I believe, so that plus my Oval Charm makes it a 90% chance iirc.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven to have a higher shiny rate, though nobody knows the exact numbers. But yes, it took me a little over an hour to find, so your chances in the FS with a shiny charm are pretty good.

The only two Pokemon in the safari I was using were Beautifly and Ledyba, and I'm really glad I didn't encounter a shiny Ledyba first.

i'm just paranoid about this.

I'm still shooting for a helioptile right now. I decided on dry skin instead of solar power, but I still have a good, not shiny, hp ice solar power one if I really wanted to try it. I MIGHT do the same thing with meditite, but it's not an issue yet.

Managed to catch it without the others killing it. That's my second shiny Geodude, too.

Been having the worst luck shiny hatching. Was able to get a shiny growlithe months ago after around 900 eggs, and I've hatched around 62 full boxes of chespin to no avail.

What's unbelievable is that I have a shiny charm and have been using Masuda Method. Gave up on Chespin for now and am hunting for Hawlucha. I need some encouragement :(

You're weak to both earthquake and Dragon Pulse which are everywhere (at least in-game), but if youre not going Mega or if its meant more for competitive, then physical defense > HP.

Plug in some calcs for what you want to be able to do I guess, and customize an EV Spread, if you want to avoid Smogon

I have a lot more luck with the Friend Safari simply because you can encounter something and run away a lot faster than hatching eggs takes but I believe the rate of shinies is similar though. Breeding is much better for competitive shinies though. as you can guarantee Nature/IVs

i'm going for sheer force because i'm planning to run bulk up + life orb on it. that free life orb damage without drawbacks is too good to pass up. defiant doesn't work so well on it, since normally i use defiant/competitive 'mons as a counter to sticky web, since you'll get an automatic boost on switching in. since braviary is a flying type, he wouldn't get a boost.

but that's just my opinion.
