Complete new to Pokemon

hi /vp/, I would like to have your attention for a little if you don't mind

I'm complete new to the pokemon games; I've never played any of them but recently I've become more interested.
So I've come to you seeking help with some doubts.
Now, I've been lurking a little and searching about pokemon; I'm not here to ask about EVs, IVs, how to play, what to do, how to breed, etc.

The thing is, when I play a game I like to enjoy the original experience of it.
I plan to play the pokemon series from the very beginning without missing a game, remakes included.
But I have some doubts about what games to choose, specially with the "third" versions, and I would be very grateful to know your opinion.

1st gen: I've noted that I can play the first two in three main different colors: greyscale, blue or red almost monochrome, or somewhat colored (this one is the only one with sprites colored). Pic related in order of mentioned.
As I said I'm interested in living the original experience, the problem is that I don't know which one of the three options is closer to how you played it in its original handheld and I would like to know which is more accurate to the real experience or which is better.

Should I play one of the two first and then Emerald or just go for Emerald? What do I miss if so?
Also, the remakes of the 1st gen came out between RS and Emerald, right? Do you recommend to play it before or after Emerald?

4th gen: in this case I've seen lots of people to hate DP and say Platinum was a great game and "fixed" the problems.
I guess I'll go for Platinum but I would like to know what are those "problems". Just curious.
And about the remakes of the second gen, they came out after Platinum, right? Just to be sure.

6th gen: no doubts here as I only have to choose between the normal pair.

Mystery Dungeon: I've read several times about them here, almost every one seemed to agree that they are very good.
Seems to be three main groups: Red/Blue teams, Time/Darkness/Sky, and Gates to Infinity.
Red was for GBA and Blue for DS so I'm guessing Blue is a better option?
And Sky seems to be one of those third versions with improvements but some say it was more easy than Time/Darkness so I don't know what to play.
Also, to what gen corresponds each group? Should I try them after I've played all the core games or on their corresponding gens?

One last thing if you don't mind. I've seen a few gameplays to catch a glimpse of it.
In competitive seems like you can't change the pokemon after beating one but it's allowed ingame.
This can be changed in options and some people seems to agree is better like this, like the other way is easy-mode.
The problem is that if I do play it in "no-changing-mode" It would alienate me a bit from the "original experience" that I'm looking for as the majority of people seem to not use that option.
I'd like to know your opinion on that detail.

please consider playing the remakes (fr/lg and hg/ss) instead of yellow and crystal

also don't bother with iv/ev and just dive into the game. if/when you're content, come back and we'll teach you the ways of gitting gud

Play them in order and when you reach 5th gen, play the 1st and 2nd game. Since you've never played any Pokemon game, I recommend you play the remakes instead of the originals.

There is no reason to play Gold and Silver when Crystal exists, nor is there Ruby/Sapphire or Diamond/Pearl.

The problems with Diamond and Pearl was that they are just a lot slower games; the HP bar drains at a lethargic pace, you walk slow, and there is just a poor selection of Pokemon. Platinum fixed most of this, but you still have some issues that are just tied to Sinnoh, like requiring a ton of HMs in order to progress.

If you want to follow the plot, then match the colors; it makes sense later on in Black/White 1 why the legendaries are swapped on the cover.

you're not missing anything of relevance (and really, pokèmon isn't much about missables)

Playing each gen twice will be way too much. It's fine if you're playing as they release, but a dozen pokemon games in a row will just get boring.

Not only are the third versions identical other than slight improvements, each generation follows the exact same formula and basic plot. It only began to feel a little fresh in gen 5.

At most, maybe you will find R/B and Y both playing just to compare the anime influence on Yellow. I suggest otherwise to stick to the third versions.

If you're fine with the original graphics and REALLY want the original experience, go with the original game boy games and not the remakes. The remakes tend to add in pokemon that weren't originally there iirc, but you'd have to double check.

I'd play the spin off games in chronological order between the other releases, so you have some variety between all the badge collecting.

First of all, the differences in the picture you posted are the first is R/B on an ordinary gameboy while the second is R/B on a gameboy color. The third is Yellow on a gameboy color.

Now, if you really want to play from the beginning, than just follow the 3rd versions, they generally add onto the main two, without removing to many things.
Though if you just want to experience each region, I'd play them starting at gen 3, then play them in order from there, Emerald, firered, platinum, etc.

And lastly, I would recommend playing yellow just for fun, as it has a uniqueness that hasn't been seen in the rest of the games and is in my opinion the best game.

You're mostly right about everything. General rule is that you want to play the original before the third version just so you can appreciate the changes that were made, since that's how most people did while playing the game.

Play red or blue first, then yellow since there are a ton of little differences to enjoy. It's more fun if you're familiar with the anime.

Then play gold/silver (just pick box legendary you like more) and play crystal if you want to see the changes they added. The games aren't that vastly different compared to the normal third version changes.

For gen 3 follow the same pattern for ruby/sapphire -> emerald. Changes aren't too crazy and most are just quality of life changes for if you regularly play. There is a very slight plot difference between the games but the events are mostly the same except instead of a red team you fight a blue team or vice versa. I would recommend playing the gen 1 remakes (firered/leafgreen) too just because they improve the games a lot and there's are some extra sidequests that were added too.

Diamond/pearl is literally the same except for the legendary and available Pokemon. Platinum makes some larger plot changes compared to the previous games so its worth doing both. Quality improves a lot for general play as well.
I definitely recommend the gen 2 remakes because they are just awesome. Lots of improvement all around.

Once you are done with gen 4 pick your preferred version of black and white and follow with their sequel. You don't really have to go black->black2 but it does make the plot feel a little more consistent even though the differences are really arbitrary.

The middle (mono blue / red) was on Gameboy Color.

The colored sprites weren't available until Doduo / Dodrio Gameboy Tower on Pokémon Stadium.

But yeah: DO NOT SKIP AN ENTIRE GEN AND JUST PLAY THE LAST GAME BECAUSE YOU'LL MISS ALL THE IMPROVEMENTS! Fuck the mouthbreathers that would argue otherwise if you want the full experience you gotta see where the upgrades came in.

I'd also recommend the ranger spinoff games, but you don't have to really worry about them if you don't want to.

Also if you're planning on transfering pokemon, don't worry about the first two generation of games because you can't move them past gen 3.

Thank you very much for your answers so far.

For those saying that I should either skip the remakes or play them instead the old versions:
As I said when I play a series of old games I like to enjoy a close experience that the original players lived when it came out.
This is because I love to see the evolution that that series has experienced over the time, so the repetitiveness is not a problem for me.
Neither are the old graphics/music; I'm used to play retro.
Playing the remakes after the old ones is not a nuisance, the contrary;
I love to see the evolution of the games, what's better for it than playing the remakes even if I "repeat" a game?

Anyway, here's what I think is a graphic difference between Emerald and its predecesors that I've seen a pair of times around here.
Is this an exception or should I expect this kind of changes if I go for the third versions?
So far seem to be a majority pointing to go for the third versions in most of cases.

I stopped playing after gen 4 but basically the 3rd version is always a mix between the 2 previous versions plus extended content and improvements in graphics/sprites. So yes, you could just play every 3rd game and you wouldn't miss anything but as you said, in order to savor the improvements and evolution of the game, you should always pick 1 of the 2 first version and then play the 3rd one to get the whole picture. Remakes are optional and I strongly suggest not playing them before the originals.

Personally I played Red -> Yellow -> Gold -> Crystal -> Ruby -> Emerald -> FireRed -> HeartGold

B2W2 are true sequels to BW in that they take place in the same region a few years later, with the story of B2W2 being heavily influenced by the events of BW. BW were also the first games since Gen I to have only new pokemon obtainable before beating the Elite 4 while their sequels have old and new pokemon, so you'll go in blindly learning about the new pokemon the same way we did.

I suggest you do the opposite, skip Yellow, it's just a special version that follows the anime plot, nothing important.

I don't think Crystal it's worth playing either if you already played Gold or Silver, but that's just my opinion. Others really liked it.

Emerald instead is very good imho and I consider it a must.

I didn't like DP, felt slow as fuck, but hey, it's still a main series Pokemon game, and I really enjoyed the plot. Platinum is a lot better though.

5 gen games differ from other Pokemon games, they felt weird, at least to me, but they are still good. It's the first time we didn't get a third version but sequels so i suggest to play them too.

I can understand it with RSE
but in GSC he should just skip to Crystal: the changes were mere details and a few improvements
playing a double region two times with minor changes is stupid
and in DPP we all know how the two first were. I would recommend to just play Platinum as this one was a great improvement

c'mon, he's not going to "miss" practically anything if he skips with Crystal, Emerald and Platinum
the "experience" is the same but with some trivial details that are better, specially Platinum

I started playing when R/B came out. I own nearly every version now, but in general, I played one of the pairs and then the third in each gen. I believe that this is the most natural experience. As far as which ones to play, look at version exclusive pokemon and just pick what you like the most.

The gen two games are skippable imo, because of the lack of new Pokemon made available to you and the barren overworld. Everything feels squished together, and the areas from the first game are smaller and empty. The remakes were cool due to their gimmicks though. Emerald is definitely the way to go for gen 3, and Platinum for gen 4, no doubt. A lot of people complain about gen 5s plot but it's actually pretty cool, so I'd definitely not skip either of them. Both have a great selection of Pokemon and great difficulty level.
