No one's saying that this Pokemon can't be beat. For as much as /vp/ likes to bitch and pretend that they know how competitive shit works, they miss the really obvious concept of "overcentralizing".

While I personally don't agree with the ban, there's not "no good reason". It's not like they just up and decided, a year into the game, that they just now can't deal with it.

The verdict was that Aegislash overcentralizes the metagame. It forces too many Pokemon to become unviable, requires a way to specifically deal with it (sometimes even to the point of sacrificing your own team setup), and overall has an overarching influence of the meta, unwarranted of its' position.

Personally, I'm not convinced that it's positive influences don't outweigh the negative ones, but pretending like the entire community of Smogon players just randomly spout shit out is a great way to get your argument denied.

Because moves and abilities are generally designed for in-game (ie: singles) gameplay. More people play singles online than every other format combined. The idea that GF balances around doubles is absurd, only a small minority of players even touch VGC, and it's run entirely by TPCI, not GF.

Besides, if you were paying attention you'd have known that GF has no idea how to actually balance the game. They came out and admitted that no one had even considered special Aegislash when designing it, and that's the one Pokemon that actually appeared to be made with competitive in mind.

Lets say theres pokemon A and B

Pokemon A is considered for ban and Pokemon B is considered pretty good but pokemon A helps to cushion Bs impact on the tier

Pokemon A is banned. Pokemon B is now doing better in the tier than he already was before now that A can't check him/deal with him some and then pokemon B gets a power creep

Now Pokemon C who does really good in the tier is about to lose B and become strong enough for a ban ETC

Aegislash kept a bunch of stuff in check but was cancerous in its own right. Usually a snowball effect only happens early on in the generation when there's a bunch of stuff that's outright banworthy in the tier. Anything that moves up in viability was probably already extremely good, and a single mon probably wasn't enough to hold it back. Gardevoir/Heracross/Medicham will be great now, but Aegislash wasn't their only problem. It certainly kept them from being chosen for teams, but they won't completely destroy the tier now that it's gone, because they all have common mons that can get rid of them.

So usually if something else gets suspected, it's probably because it was terrorizing the tier either way but only has a time to shine because lots of people see it as the next broken thing to abuse.
