After all, there are already NintendoIDs and that's kind of a social thing- and Miiverse, which I've never experimented with.
I guess what I'm asking is more along the lines of "Would Pokemon benefit from being a more socially-driven game and involving the player's identity?"
You could argue that it would- that verifying your identity would be useful somehow, or that it would benefit from the publicity it would get. Maybe you could get something useful in-game for streetpassing a person on your friends list or idk. Kind of like O-Powers but more specific, and maybe even more buffed up. Y'know. To encourage you to share your information.
Some people are into this kind of thing- iPhone games that do the exact same things exist out there and people still play them religiously. If it wasn't implemented so...suddenly, I don't know- I could see any major gaming company tying itself into social media to get more consumers.
I guess it does look like a dumb question.
I assure you it isn't the dumbest thing I've done today.
