He wasn't interested in going after the Camerupt for some reason; instead he was going to finish off the Ninetales that dared to think it was a threat. A barrage of fists and feet flew at the fiery fox, the threat of Close Combat hopefully enough to take it down.
The rest of Mike's team wasn't as fortunate. The Camerupt might be down the hall, but the heat of the Eruption could be felt even where they were. Again those without heat resistance sought higher ground; by this time they were nearly backed up against the portal entrance. They were fortunately out of the the realm of direct heat damage, but an indirect source could prove just as harmful.
