Return, Double-edge and Thrash are all viable. They have their own advantages as disadvantages with Return being the safest.

You can run Double-Edge, but I dont think it's worth it because of the recoil. Return already does a shit ton of damage

To add to that, you'll also have to empty out a move for roost because of the knockback.
Personally, DD + Double Edge + Roost + Fire Coverage Move doesn't sound all that degrading

I know the majority of megas look fine, but so do the majority of the gen 4 evos. It pisses me off that people bitched about them so much that now nothing will ever get a cross generational evolution, and instead stuff will only get megas.

Bannete should have gotten a normal evolution.

The design could have easily been a normal evo. Remember that duskull is shuppet's counterpart, and it got duscnoir in gen 4.

VGC players mostly use special Salamence already, and now the Mega gets STAB Aerilate Hyper Voice which hits both targets and goes through Substitute. Could this be the beginning of something brilliant?

Gamefreak has proven time and time again that they don't give a fuck about counterparts. You just listed one of the best examples OP, but I'll raise you Mega Gallade, Mega Venusaur and Blastoise Y, Mega Golem, Mega Machamp, a Jynx evo, and a Skarmory prevo.

chances are it will get points dumped into both offensive stats as well so either way it will get special attack boost
then base on the design a shit tonne of speed which will allow for an attack boosting nature instead of speed

Flying-type Outrage. Why should I prefer it? Outrage is more useful since Ger6 because Fairy type switch-in ends the rampage. Also better coverage.
