Dragonite is only good because of Multiscale. Before Gen V, it was severely outclassed by Salamence, and even, to an extent, Flygon.

It gets something else.

But think it this way. Multiscale gives it a fair use outside of being a Mega. so your opponent wouldn't know if it's gonna shed off Multiscale or not. Hell, even if it is a Mega, nothing forces it to immediately evolve.
