In gen VI, the map improves a little, but the path through it is extremely linear and real railroady; the plot is an order of magnitude worse; and the handholding is an inspiration to soccer moms everywhere.

Unless you're really interested in some of the gen VI pokémon, hold off until Z.

I like Gen 5 a lot. For one, types like Bug and Fighting got the buffs they deserved. Moves like Wild Charge and Hurricane smoothed out the physical-special split quite nicely. And the new Pokemon were hella fun to use.

For Pokemon standards I enjoyed the plot, minus the out-the-ass twist at the end, as well as its unsubtle foreshadowing in N's Castle.

BW2 are full sequels, yes, but they also did the same thing with Platinum by fixing a lot of BW1's mistakes. Bigger Pokemon variety, bigger map, more of a challenge, more features, improved post-game, etc

well, too bad a good amount of location you visit are techinacally reashed from the first two games and they are still pretty linear which for a sequel you know, it's not really a good thing, the new areas they added are kinda cool though.

This, say what you want but the ending was a hell lot better than any others.

and the pokewood is pretty much a boring scripted minigame that they force you at the beginning of the game, like the 2 hour tutorial wasn't already enough

Everyone HATED Gen 3 from 2003 to 2010. Pure vitriol. Then as soon as HGSS dropped it was suddenly the best Pokemon gen.

Gen 5 was one of the better gens, and it will get the recognition it deserves as soon as the Unovafetuses grow up and learn how to internet.

Though honestly the Sinnoh circlejerk is going to kill me, because Diamond and Pearl were by far the worst Pokemon games. They were so clunky, ugly, unbalanced, and uncharacteristically dark and washed out.

but it's not like any other game where you face the elite 4 and then the champion and then it's over. your just exploring the last dungeon of the game and then all of a sudden you have to fight the dude you played as in the previous generation (not to mention he's by far the strongest opponent of the entire first four generations). definitely a deviation from the standard Pokemon game ending

Feebas was hard to find but once you manage to find the spot you can farm them like a bitch, and Hidden Grottos are different anyway, people don't care about HA in-game, the main focus of that feature is competitive play and considering how tedious it was to breed for legit good pokemon before 6th gen i don't think people appreciated Hidden Grottos very much, that's why most people used to pokegen in gen 5

This. Sinnoh is basically a washed out snowy wasteland with no geographic diversity, an endless amount of caves, and depressing jazz music.

No. The Battle Zone was tropical, but everything immediately west of it was snowy? That's almost as bad as Kalos experiencing four seasons at once.

Every single route looked the exact same. They had the exact same grass/snow textures. None of the hundred of caves were distinctive, and they all had the same poor selection of Pokemon. At least Kalos routes were distinctive and had different Pokemon in each one.

I never understood how people compare gens. Do you include remakes as well? Diamond and Pearl are probably the worst games in the series but Platinum and HG/SS are fantastic. Obviously Gen 1 and 2 are outdated that they're almost unplayable. Hell, even Gen 3 with its lack of phys/spec split is a pain.

Gen 5 is literally the worst pokemon game ever produced, talking region and plotwise because the pokemon are actually cool.
The map sucks and the plot it's the gayest novel on good videogames. Only edgy "I hate everything but animals" underages would legitimately think Gen V was good.

As much as I looked fondly on gen2, it was far from perfect and HGSS missed so many opportunities to change the crappy parts of Johto
