Its horns are made of steel, which evolved into a giant maw. If you look at its animation in the game, you can see how heavy and sturdy its maw is.

Fan designs ignore this concept by making the maw flesh when they are suppose to be evolved horns, and thus fuck up the intended design.

Pixilate is taken from Pixie, not Pixel, the i vs. e makes a difference, but otherwise I get what you're saying and made the same assumption originally too. Especially considering the way the first wing pattern we see matches Sylveon's ribbons. It would have been different if the first pattern shown was a different one or we saw more than one.

It's always bothered me that pretty much all of the bird pokemon are normal/flying.
They could have made at least one of the families pure flying, as it stands there's only one pure flying type pokemon.

It was made because [someone] wanted to make the flattest Pokemon.
It was originally a Water/Electric-Type with a blue body based on a goosefish.
But, when they were adjusting the balance [of the Pokedex (colour, type, order, of various Pokemon etc)] they changed its type and made it like a Right-Eye Flounder.
There was a rough sketch of someone stepping on it and it producing an electric shock.

If you're talking about Karrablast and Shelmet there's a reason for it: Karrablast steals Shelmet's armor. Their abilities, including their hidden ones, reflect that. I believe that since the Lake Fairie's concepts are more focused on the aspects of the human mind than fae(probably why they're still mono psychic), I can see these 3 having megas with these types over Fairy:

Mega Uxie: Psychic/Electric(Neurons functioning with knowledge)
Mega Mesprit: Psychic/Water(Flow of emotion)
Mega Azelf: Psychic/Fire(Willpower/burning passion)

Cresselia's mega would diffidently be part Fairy tho. They probably didn't make her Fairy for balance reasons. A Psychic/Fairy mega that lacks an item would help balance it out.

That's the right lore, but there's more to it than that. After a particular carp became a dragon it also became an asshole and abused its power. The gods knew this wasn't rad behavior so they removed his dragon power but let the carp keep its dragon body.

Charizard not getting dragon in its base form is most likely because having a half-dragon starter would ruin the type triangle.
