Usually they bring new moves to a pokemon that only the baby form can learn.
Other than that, they're annoying to breed and usually annoying to evolve.

Did people actually give to shits about Magmar when Magmortar happened I mean honestly. I know some people like Electabuzz and Electivire is a Love-Hate thing but who really gave two shits about Magmar, I don't think anyone actually liked it to begin with and people hate Magmortar just to hate it for "ruining" their nostalgia. Magmar was ugly anyway, Mortar is just extra ugly to top off the line, same for Lickitung, I doubt anyone cared about Lickitung or Yanmega until their evos happened. And I know damn well nobody cared about Sneasal or Nosepass either, if anything, those pokemon would be grateful they even got paid enough attention to get evolutions.

Sometimes it's weird to see a fully grown pokemon hatch from an egg. Babies remedy that weirdness as well as attracting girls for the cute factor.

Sneasel and Lickitung were my favorite Pokemon back in Gen2, but I could never fucking catch one.

I love lickilicky though, I just hate its fucking name.
IMO It should've been Tungtyed -> Lickitung. Keep everything else the same because why not.

The problem with baby pokemon is that they're baby pokemon and not just pre-evolutions, so they're usually ignored by players

I fail to see how not needing an Incense and being able to breed would affect the merch.

Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff and Azurill are the only true babies, tho. The rest of the preevos are actually decent examples of first stages. But Pikachu, Clefairy, Jigglypuff and Marill, unlike everything else that got a preevo, were already bonafide unevolved Pokemon, and thus we got premature crap.

For certain Pokemon it's a good excuse to have something from that line to appear earlier in the game, like Budew in gen 4.

Incense breeding is shit though, Destiny knot is an obvious requirement on top of the incense - so you're stuck with random nature just because you wanted the alternate/additional egg moves
