Not necessarily. Item could be dropped entirely, as it would probably be a major hax on whatever gets the new evolution. I personally think it's a little haxed on a Rhydon, but Rhydon was only good before gen IV. Too many alternatives now.

TL;DR they could just get rid of eviolite, which is likely. Just means we probably won't get them in ORAS.

Imagine they gave an extended evolution to a decent mon that just needs that little boost to get into UU or even OU by evolving. Toss an Eviolite on it instead. Could possibly be hax.

or mega abomasnow
or mega absol
or mega manectric
or mega houndoom
or mega aerodactyl
or mega gyarados
or mega banette

Why use these on your one mega slot when you can use Scizor, Pinsir, Heracross, Charizard, Venusaur, t-tar etc, which took already good pokemon and made them even better? Instead of making shit pokemon decent. They would have all benefited more from regular evos

I think there will be more cross gen evos, but only for weak-ass Pokémon without Megas. And certainly not in Gen 6, the generation of Mega Evolution.
Once it's no longer the new and in vogue thing, we'll get more cross-gen evos.
