unfertilized egg:
male drone (genetic clone of queen)
fertilized egg:
sterile worker (fed only honey)
fertile queen (fed large amounts of royal jelly)
I mean they are 'female' because they carry the same chromosomes, but I always associated gender with reproduction, so It's always been weird to me.
