Where the hell are they in Gen VI? Anyone have any idea why there's apparently just a single Normal Gem in X and Y, and none of the others?

Gems were stupidly powerful in Gen V, so Game Freak took them out as a balancing mechanism. Normal Gem was seen as OK for some reason but they nerfed its power anyway.

Items that haven't been released are barred from being traded. Only way you could get them in a trade is through local.

Except that they weren't. IIRC they really weren't used that much outside of the Acrobatics/Flying Gem combo.

I'm in the US. Given that the movies have ceased to go through theaters here after the fifth movie, I kind of doubt anything like that is going to happen. I'm hoping we still get them with Diancie assuming it's eventually distributed in the US, which it probably will be. (They came awfully close to no US release with Arceus.)

Also, if I'm understanding Bulbapedia right, Diancie only had Normal Gem?

They were everywhere in VGCs/doubles, which GF considers the "real" metagame.
