God the battle styles killed me. Was nobody else bothered with all pokemon being OHKO'd the entire time? It felt really unnatural and rushed, half the time, and then tedious and drawn out the other half.

And how are health bars even a thing when the Pokemon in the gyms clearly have no monitoring equipment attached to them.

Charizard circlejerk. Animation was great but battles were boring. Just because it's truer to the games doesn't mean is makes for good anime. Actually made me appreciate the real anime more, because unconventional strategy is more interesting to watch.

It was too damn short. It was treated as a nostalgia cashgrab and an advertisement for Mega Charizard X first and its own series fifty-second. All of Red's Pokemon who weren't his starter would get OHKO'd, usually within seconds, before said starter would sweep everything in its path.

The episodes worth watching were pretty much just the first and last - considering how much it skipped around anyway you aren't losing much.

The first because the low level battle against Brock was actually fun to watch (though Red lays out one of the cringiest lines of the whole miniseries right at the beginning)

and the last because the Mewtwo battle looked really nice, though the way they sped through the E4/Champion Battle was kind of off.

To be fair. Ash doesn't have 150 pokemon like Red did at the end of Origins. Who has the time to bond with all of them? And Pikachu is in the Ashime what Charizard was in that special, so I don't see any problem with the pandering besides:

Not really.

Pikachu may get the most screentime by nature of being the mascot and not being in a ball, but he doesn't win Gym or League matches all too often. Not to say he never does, but it's not to the extent of Charizard in Origins.

Oh and by the way, Onix is sprayed by the sprinkler system allowing an electric attack to be effective.

The next episode of the ashime will feature he and his friends traveling to a new town, they meet today's featured character who is going through some perils surrounding today's featured pokemon. team rocket is behind it. they try to steal ash's pikachu. he electrocutes them. they blast off. ash and co are sad to leave.

In the Original Series and maybe Best Wishes (I don't know for sure, I never saw BW). In AG, DP, and XY so far, Ash actually won the gym matches except for Maylene's Lucario, which tied with Ash's Buizel.

TR has only been in about 2/3rds of XY's episodes, and rarely in the capacity you're describing.

I could see how they thought it was a good idea to really develop Red's relationship with Charizard rather than touching around and giving half-development to a bunch of other mons and making it come off as fake.

But I enjoyed Origins like crazy, but it was just way to short. The inclusion of Megastones with Fuji was a crazy little twist, which made the ending crazier. (The megastone was with Red in general, the transformation was probably a one shot thing because of Red's want to win, doesn't he get both stones though right? ) There was some parts but it was a pretty good way to bring some people into it and give us older folks a good send back.

But yea it should have been a hell longer, the battles worked nice but not enough of it.

Yes, they build new machines because that's what they fucking do, it's like a comic villain's superpower, and blasting off means defeat. That doesn't mean anything. It's how they're defeated that matters.

In ep 8 we were shown Ash's skills when he battled them with a blinded Pikachu. In ep 17 their giant ninja meowth caused Froakie to learn double team. In ep 34 they prompted Lucario to finally control itself.

Conversely, in ep 18 they were just a cameo that got blasted off right away, a comical footnote in the princess plot. In 19 they were overshadowed by Malamar, establishing a greater threat on the horizon. In ep 36 they allowed fletchling to prove itself worthy to fight Nami, the main plot point.

You're just proving your ignorance and stupidity by completely ignoring the context. TR is not there for their own sake, they serve a purpose. Patterns do not indicate a lack of variety.
