I'm not sure what you mean about its design being have to do with a deceiving magician (do you actually mean illusionist by this?); the only part of its design that relies remotely on deception is its ability. Honestly, Greninja is more about deception and ninja trickery, seeing as how its ability name in JP can also mean "phantasmagoria," it learns moves like Smokescreen, Shadow Sneak, Feint Attack, and Double Team.
