So I've seen stat prediction threads. But not as many predicted usage and training threads for the new megas. All new megas welcome.

Ice + Ground + Water already have perfect neutral coverage, so using the last slot on another coverage move is pointless. Swampert has a ton of bulk, so it shouldn't have any problem setting up Rain Dance.

Even with neutral coverage, shit like Ferrothorn will still wall it and OHKO with Power Whip. Using Superpower (or Low Kick in Ubers) in the last slot takes care of that problem.

Altaria depends on exact stat distro, but there are a couple of viable possibilities.

Bulky DD
Adamant, full Att EVs and heavy HP, possibly some speed for relevant threats
-Dragon Dance
-Return
-Earthquake
-Roost
Pixilate Return is a powerful STAB, and EQ rounds out coverage nicely. Have to watch out for Fire/Flying types and airborne steels, so good teammates are crucial. Bulky Waters will probably pair well.

Alternative Special sets could boost with Agility or Cotton Guard (investing heavily in Sp.Def), while attacking with Hyper Voice, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, possibly Dragon STAB. Roost will still be a staple.

Altaria also boasts a great support movepool. Clerics with Heal Bell are possible, and other moves like Perish Song, Safeguard, Toxic, or Pixilate Body Slam paralysis might see use.

Calm Mind Mega Slowbro will probably be pretty nasty, mediocre ability aside. Can't be critted when boosting, has improved Defense.

You could run a set with Calm Mind, Slack Off, Scald, and then Flamethrower/Psychic/Ice Beam to pretty good effect.

And yeah I'm really looking forward to it. Really suits my playstyle. Not even worried about shell armor. Crits fuck up defense boosting strategies so often because you are always slower and they get a dozen chances to get that one crit that wins them the game.

sadly i dont think its been said what stat gets boosted on mega sceptile, hopefully it ends up being attack rather than special, because sceptiles physical movepool is fucking huge, but the special one is basically focus miss, giga drain and dragon pause

Most likely, no. Sceptile will probably get a speed boost, which will put it at insane fucking levels. Using it as leverage to get a one up on your foe and stop volt-switch is what's important. Don't forget, it deals well with Thundurus as well. Itll need to watch out for HP Ice, but that aside, it's faster and priority T-Wave does nothing.

Sceptile all comes down to it's movepool. It's stats will be fine. If it get's a setup move like Nasty Plot, or, more importantly, if it get's Volt Switch (normally I wouldn't have seen it as a possibility, but I mean.. it randomly has lightning rod, so why the fuck not I guess?), we'll see usage out of it.

You can classify that under "counters".

Salamence had no counters before, only checks, which is what the first anon was reffering to. Revenge killers, like Talonflame's Brave Bird would fall under that. To be honest though, anon, I'm not even sure Talonflame counts anymore. M-Sala gets a huge defense boost. That's a lot better than people realize.... it's insurance against priority, which is doubley true since Life Orb recoil doesn't matter (which was the #1 common way of dealing with regular Mence before)

Im hoping they'ell give Sceptile the Charizard X treatment. Notice that both regular Charizard and Sceptile have average Attack and superior Special Attack alongside having a superior physical movepool? What if Mega-Sceptile could make use of Lighting Rod to not be WoW bait at the same time, being able to run it's massive physical movepool effectively? Like somewhat of a situational mixed attacker?

This setup would be ideal in my opinion.

Having mixed stats likely would mean running one or the other-- his STAB coverage isn't perfectly neutral, and he almost certainly won't get Draco Meteor, but being able to abuse SD, it's wild speed and amazing physical movepool would really prime him for sweeping in today's metagame. It'd also add the all-too-important element of unpredictability, as the ability to go mixed is always vital.

Fast Fake Out and Encore support. High Jump Kick is better for Rotom, while Low Kick is a "safer" move overall. You could try stuffing Thunder Wave somwhere in here but Pranksters are probably better for this job anyways.

Naive / Overgrow
EV: max speed, then a lot in sp.atk, then some EVs into attack to secure a OHKO on Talonflame/CharY
- Leaf Storm / Energy Ball
- Dragon Pulse
- Rock Slide
- Protect

This is what I'm expecting a standard Lightning Rod support to look like. Hopefully GF doesn't substract anything from it's Attack, since Rock Slide is a really useful move here. Pairing it with something like Zapdos might be cool for Discharge and paraflinch shenanigans.
