>>20515741Something nice about gen 1.....well there are a LOT of things that were good back in the day.
First of all founding the concept and making sure there were a LOT of monsters for the players to choose from and to fight. After all 150 is a LOT of choices no matter how you cut it. This is a good thing that has only gotten better over time.
Secondly, out of all of the teams besides maybe plasma, Team Rocket are the most believable villains, (the lack of enough sense to just shoot some kid that wanders into their bases aside, or hell if they are the mob and have the cops in their pocket, calling them in and having him arrested). All Giovanni wanted was money and power and his underlings reflected that.
The rival being a dick, someone you wanted to punch in the face/humiliate utterly is, IMHO, overstated and honestly not a plus. Sure it IS far better than the "Friends" in Gen 6, but honestly Blue/Gary/(Green if Jap) is one dimensional as all hell. Silver had more personality and character growth over GSC.

Sprites are also ok at best, Mew fetus at worst.
There are bazillions of bugs, which while utterly hilarious to abuse/experiment with, quickly lose their luster and become annoying more than anything else.
All in all, i have few truly bad things to say about Gen 1, i spent thousands of hours in Blue as a child, and wouldnt change it for the world.
(Also fuck Lance and his entire extended family. They are terrible "final bosses" and pokemon trainers.)
