How is perish trap supposed to work? I use Perish Trap, then Mean look, then switch pokemon out at the last moment, but the enemy always switches their pokemon too, so what is the point of that? A guide on smogon says you can KO opponents, while keeping your trapper alive, but it has never worked for me.

I am playing crystal, 2nd edition and using Misdreavus.
