A similar thing happened to me. I was trying to get a better female torchic for breeding purposes and got a shiny male 4IV speed boost torchic before even getting a standard female 4IV one.

There's barely any difference but oh well. The exact same thing also happened with a female Espurr while I was going for a regular male one, but I gave her to someone.
