Are children still the largest fanbase of Pokemon(outside of Japan)?

Let's be honest here, most of us are adults. We grew up in the 80's, 90's, and possibly even the early 2000's. We're all on /vp/ because of our common interest: Pokemon. When we grew up, the only way to play mobile games was on your Gameboy or Gameboy color, and Lord knows if you had one of those you MUST have had Pokemon. That game series alone is probably responsible for the huge success of Nintendo's portables.

However, the newer generation of kids don't seem nearly as enthused about the franchise. I attribute this to the fact that many kids now don't have mobile consoles. Honestly, when was the last time you saw a kid playing a 3ds in public? For every 500 kids playing a game on their parent's phone or tablet, there's maybe one who has their own console. When you consider how much a 3ds cost along with the price of games, it makes sense that parents are content with letting their children play with mobile apps instead of something like a 3ds.

What are your anons' thoughts on this? Do you think will change how they market the franchise in outside of Japan? I've really seemed to notice it with this gen in particular, and I'm not just talking about all of the Kanto stuff in Kalos. I mean, they have clothing on the newly opened Pokecenter store that only come in adult sizes for fuck sake and items clearly intended for adults and not children (coffee mugs, high-end ball point pens, etc.).

So, discuss your thoughts on this. Where do you think Pokemon is headed on a global scale?
