i dont get it. IV's, while necessary for competitive equality are underwhelming. they work on a 1:1 ratio, which puts pokemon with say, 0 IV's at a notable but not drastic disadvantage.

OK first of all theres no better generation each generation has its positives and negatives like generation ll gold silver have amazing soundtracks and the dinosaur looking starters for gold silver crystal was a simple yet came out to have some nice looking and pretty formidable starters and crystal of generation 2 was the first to introduce pokemon that move when you look at their stats and gen 2 allowed you to have pokeballs crafted for you wich if im correct you cant do in any other game other than soulsilver and heartgold making it more exclusive and in generation 3 they added some nice looking starters like the uber powerful swampert and added alot more nice pokemon like one of my faves seviper and they allowed you to make other stuff like treehouses and clay pots and stuff of that sort and pokemob leefgreen and firered re done the first generation and made it slightly better every generatuon has something for someone generation four diamond pearl platinum had an ok soundtrack but also gave some pokemon new evolutions abd had some amazing starters and pokemon heartgold and soulsilver took the generation 2 game s soundtrack and everything about it and made the games 2 times better and the heartgold and soulsilver let you participate in the pokemon olympics wich is freaking awsome and pokemon heartgold and soulsilver is like taking all the pokemon together from the last generations and ketching them all and black and white series had a good soundtrack with new and totally different starters like youd never seen before and they introduced a ton of new legendarys and pokemon in heartgold and soulsilver you could catch just about every legendary from the other generations before it but I havent played x and y and pokemon heartgold and soulsilver and gold and silver have two regions in one game overall theres a perfect pokemon game out there for everyone but my favorite and im not calling anything the best is pokemon heartgold and soulsilver.

I don't think pokemon should be marketed to only children. Not only for the products, but in how the game is treated as well. Opinion 2: I hate Megas, but not as a concept, not as a design thing, or as a mechanic. I hate that they represent GF's fear of messing with the older pokemon by giving the proper evolutions. GF got so much backlash for giving old mons new evolutions (especially in GEN IV) and when they tried just making new pokemon in Gen V, they still got shit. Don't get me wrong; I still like using megas because they add a new flavor for me, but in the back of my head, it will always irk me as GF's excuse for being pussies.

Opinion 3: Fairies are really lacking in flavor. Every type has a particular pokemon or a particular set of pokemon that makes you say, "oh yeah, it's definitely *insert type*", but Fairy doesn't really have that. The only thing they got is a color theme (generally pink and/or light colors), but there isn't anything unifying them from both a design and flavor standpoint.

I had more, but I forgot some. So I'll post again when I have more.

Turtwig isn't as bad as the other two but it's still really unappealing. All the other Gens at leave have one Pokémon that I can say I very much like, but Gen IV was the only one where I boxed my starter.

I honestly believe Gen V was the best. It got me back into pokemon, it felt like an actual brand new generation, I loved all the starters for the first time in any gen, and the story and mascot legends were revolved around truth and ideals. That shit was like nothing I've seen in a pokemon story since gen 1. There was a good amount of shit to do, especially in the sequels where practically the league was only half the game.

I just don't understand all the hate for it. It felt like the only gen wherw gamefreak seemed like they tried to go to a very different direction, almost unsure that it was what the demographic would want/understand. But they did it anyway and it was done so fucking well.

I think that Gen IV set things in motion for the quality increase we are currently enjoying.

I feel like Chesnaught is sorta stuck in limbo currently whereas Magician Delphox and Protean Greninja are usable. Makes me sad that my starter choice turned out to be dead weight.

Also majority of pokemon designs were shit, but at least the badass ones were badass enough to make up for it.

Also your 2D sprite juxtaposed on the 3D backgrounds was a real eyesore. And those shitty in battle moving sprites were god awful, despite being a good step forward.

Also the pattern of Plasma -> Rival -> Gym in every major city was a pain.

But Team Plasma, despite being a bunch of hippies, did get the most done out of any villain team, and Ghetsis in B/W had a seriously threatening team at the time, so I'll give them points on that.

You are entitled to your opinions on the deisgns. I personally don't really mind them as they change every gen.

The 2D sprite thing I enjoyed but again, opinions and tastes etc.

Patterns are there but it is a kids game.

The overall hand holding was for the kiddies. This game series is still beloved by children and a lot of them don't get the basics. A "tutorial off" would be a nice feature for the future.

Also Black 2 and White 2 had plenty to do post game. Entire towns/cities that could not be accessed till post E4 etc.

It would be like judging gen 4 on just D/P instead of also including HG/SS and Plat.

Gen 6 is going to keep getting better as well imo. Hoping that "Z" or whatever we get knocks our socks off with difficulty and has tons more to explore.

This is needed more than anything ever. Or at least an option to skip things you don't care about, along with the option to start out on challenge mode.

Gen 5 had oodles of postgame and that's one of the things I love about it. That moment when you walk into Cynthia's house and she challenges you is one of the most "I fucked up" moments of my life.

Also I lump remakes in the gen they come out with but I guess everyone does it differently. XY Sequel is going to be awesome. With the amount of dissapointment from XY, I think they'll rebound strongly.

Also the general threads have their own communities and friendships. We've also been ranked the most friendly board or someshit which sorta scares me when you think back to how aggressive people used to be about "gen 3 remakes never happening," "new types never happening," "Smogon vs Karen," and all the other shit we go bananas for.

Deep down though we all can agree on the basics that this series is worth putting what little time we can enjoy into.

But Gen VI held our hands even worse with that band of retards following us around the whole game.

My personal favourite Pokemon game is Emerald. I just love Hoenn as a region, the music, the Pokemon designs, and Gen III's smooth 60 FPS gameplay in general. My memories of just lounging on my bed during the summer and playing Emerald/FRLG for hours are some of the happiest.

Saying that, I think the best Pokemon games are GSC. GSC was such a massive improvement over RBY which were already great games. Every single feature GSC introduced added so much to the gameplay and broadened the Pokemon world. Unlike future generations which removed features and ruined others, GSC did nothing but improve the games.

Of course, as GSC grows older and it's features are no longer new, it is hard to go back to them and fully appreciate how good they are. But at the time they were the shit.

RBY are still very playable and it is very refreshing to go back to them and experience Pokemon as it once was.

Platinum was the last truly good Pokemon game. I really enjoyed Black and White but they started a trend of making the games too easy and lost the discovery side of Pokemon. X and Y are even worse. Platinum is flawed but at least it had a massive, detailed region that you could explore. It still felt like a natural progression from the games before it.

Mega evolutions are shit and will be the downfall of the franchise.

Most friendly board? How can that be? I don't know the other boards really, but /b/ was AT LEAST as opinionated as any of us, except for the matter that it's on the very page itself that nothing is supposed to be taken seriously. The last time I went to /m/'s Digimon thread, they were a lot more accepting of alternate interpretations of Digimon. Here, if you oppose any official interpretation, you'll be eaten alive, especially if it has to do with "making sense" or "being adult". The worst part of all is that our own mods are stupid because of /vp/ rule 5. This all combines to create petulance on a level that I did not believe was possible outside of being an actual child. The friendliest people I know here are the drawthread and the write thread. I know of nothing else because I don't play the game constantly like everyone else seems to, nor do I have any penchant for competitive. I have learned a lot about respecting an opinion that I do not agree with, but being civil seems to be a foreign concept to most of this board. I am willing to accept the matter that this is a society of rabid dogs, but I do not believe this is what we should've strived to create.

Okay, those boards are legendary for their hostileness, to the point that any thought of anybody going there is suicide. I heard there may be others as well. The safest I know of are the boards that involve just posting junk and don't involve any real conversation. Discussion about pokemon themselves is in serious danger here, though, unless it's about competitive.

Well, that was sort of an unfair analogy since the community for Digimon is far different than the one for Pokemon. A lot of the things I hate here persist in other pokemon sites. I found out the reason for this. Pokemon promotes childish ideas in everything it does. This led to me rejecting the entire idea of how pokemon is portrayed officially. Indeed, this would be blasphemy to many. Even the artists and writers still adamantly cling to a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense in pokemon. There are others that think as I do, but they are the rare among rare. I do not ask for people to agree with me, though, that would be impossible. All I ask is that I be allowed to speak. Gen II had the best region. After that, I liked Sinnoh, Hoenn, Kalos, then Kanto

Gen I had the best legendaries

I've liked all the starters, but Gen V has my favorite

I can't stand megas for their aesthetics. They look too gaudy and 90's extreme.

I think the XY anime should have followed the misadventures of Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna instead of Ash. Especially rather than Serena or Calem. They all had fun goals that would have been more fun to follow in the pokemon world.

Mechanic wise, my favorite parts about XY were the addition of character customization and Pokémon-Amie

I mean I don't want to see the player character of either sex from XY be the protagonist. They were both too distant from the Three Stooges. It's a shame they're not traveling together. Their dynamic reminded me of Ash, Brock, and Misty in a way. I would have loved to see it.

What is exactly is mysterious about Pokemon?

If you like the three stooges dynamic, it's fine. If you want them to be protags, it's fine but don't hold your breath. But don't say shit that aren't there. The 3 stooges don't really hold any similarity to the original trio [or any Team Twerp group.]

I agree with everything except for X and Y. At long last I felt like we got the core Pokémon RPG with Pokémon Stadium quality battles and for that alone I really appreciate Gen VI

It's like my childhood dream come true. That said there are other factors about Gen VI that turned me off (didn't care for Amie, or the retard squad and their personal missions, starters were OK but not too memorable or outstanding)

Generation four had some of the worst designs of the entire series.

Mega evolutions add almost nothing to the game. Most of the designs are awful.

The entire Chespin line is a total eyesore. I've never really been a big fan of grass types, but my god. Chestnaught looks pants-shittingly retarded and is probably the WORST looking stater there will ever be, nothing is ever going to top this abomination. Not even Barbaracle.

Shinies are losing their value.

Gyarados is trash. Sure, it's a powerhouse, but it's not unstoppable. There far more OP pokemon than Gyarados, everyone always flips shit over it because of "lol just wait till magikarp evolves bitch" tier injokes.

Sceptile is my favorite starter no matter what anyone says.

The original games in Gen II are overrated. It was still an epic game, but its pacing was horrible and Kanto felt like a ghost-town.
