Ice Punch is low base damage, it has 90 SpD base and EVs in either SpD or HP.

It's doable. Problem is, you can only OHKO it with Earthquake and switching to Levitate/flying is an easy predict

Nuzzle, Follow Me, Super Fang.

Nuzzle for paralysis that bypassed Taunts, Safeguards and etc. Follow Me worked because of it's deceptive bulk and Super Fang shreded the HP of defensive mons.

In the final specifically Sejun made some very good predictions and maneuvreing and soaked up a lot of hits with Follow Me even shrugging off a Mence D-Meteor.

It seems basic but the key thing is almost nothing else gets Follow Me or Rage Powder in the 2014 ruleset.

Basically he wanted a mon to take on Amoonguss' role alongside with MGyarados, so he went for Pachirisu, since everybody would be prepared for Amoonguss' anyway, but Pachirisu brings a few more twists to the table:
- Electric immunity+HP recovery instead of just resist (very useful considering the electricbait that non-mega Gyara is)
- Follow me NOT getting bypassed by Grass types and safety goggles (which is the downside of Rage Pwoder)
- Nuzzle bypassing taunt and allowing for speed control (which has proven itself useful, especially against scarftar), in itself a somewhat unexpected thing in the current VGC14 meta (a trick room gengar got a surprise win in seniors, too)
- superfang being a good offensive option on an otherwise defensive mon. Amoonguss only does something with giga drain and/or sludge bomb on supereffective hits, but superfang actually hits quite well all things considered, plus it allows pachirisu to not just be dead weight if it doesn't need to do support, but actually put some offensive presence on the field due to that (so you can't just ignore him)
- the only thing that really scares a danced MGyara is priority brave bird from talonflame, really. Amoonguss is weak to that, Pachirisu brings a resist to the table.

And that's why Pachirisu was an overall superior choice over Amoonguss in his team.

Actually, Pachi has a good advantage over many with Superfang which has a fixed damage, meaning that he can invest all the EVs in HP, Def and SpD without losing attacking power.

It really helped a lot against the Tyranitar.

Then, among these, Pachirisu has a very specific niche, being the only electric immune pokémon with follow me. And actually, it'd STILL be the only electric immune mon with follow me with ALL mons allowed. So there.

Both arash and Jeudy had follow me lucarios. The problem is that you still want to invest in their offense, meaning they can't bulk hits as well. Pachirisu can rely on super fang letting it fully invest in bulk so it's a better choice. On the other hand, lucario can dispatch of other kangas much more easily.

I think everybody realizes Pachirisu actually isn't a great mon on its own. Which is also why doubles is a more varied meta than singles: if a mon is a good team player and fits with the others you have, it can be worth it even if it's bad on its own.

Point taken, but what I was getting at was that, while you can somewhat easily tier mons in singles, it's trickier to do that in doubles. There are so many more variables to take into account that you just can't simply consider a mon to be good or bad based on its usage rate. Kanga and rain didn't make it to the Master finals, and they were supposed to be the top tier threats in this meta, it just goes to show that checking/countering top tier threats is much more feasible and unpredictable in doubles than it is in singles.

No it didn't. It just tanked a few hits, used super fang, and paralyzed. It wasn't strong enough to beat one by itself. I'm sure we'll be seeing Pachirisus in Singles soon enough.
