I haven't been reading XY. I read the first two chapters then ignored.

I know that Shauna is weird and apathetic, also everyone knew each each other prior to the manga. X was a hikki and Y is a flying type trainer.

I can't get over these goddamn names. Why can't they be nicknames? They should have used names beginning with the letters, not just using the letters.

Names like "Red" and "Ruby" can be considered dumbass westaboo parents or naming them after qualities (red eyes for example), though a lot of them suck. "X" just isn't a name that should be legally allowed.

I tried following it as best I can but the b/w parts are so chopped up so I stopped there for now.

The manga's pretty sweet overall, I like how they try to connect with the in-game events and I'm waiting for that kickass OR/AS chapter.. along with the chapters up to X/Y that I can't find a decent amount of.

I bought the English release until volume 17 with the infamous Ruby vs Norman chapter. I stopped because I could not handle the editing bullshit
I either need to suck it up or learn Japanese to continue

Now for a smallish rant. Adventures just now started getting published in Finland and I bought the first volume out of curiosity. Contrary to my hopeful expectations I am appalled. All location names, item names and Pokemon moves remain in English, probably by TPCi mandate so not exactly the fault of the translator, but still, fucking hell this is irritating to read. And while the dialogue seems more faithful to the original Japanese (no ban on "death" being the most obvious change from English) the dialogue seems a bit stilted which is of course made worse by the gratuitous English. While the publisher also also promised the manga would be uncensored, for the first volume at least they've used the English release's panelwork with English sound effects and so on. I'm not sure if this is any better than Japanese sound effects because it's still not fucking Finnish. The most glaring issue, however, isn't even related to the translation work, but rather the book binding/page layout. Some pages repeat and others seem to be completely missing, which seems unspeakably sloppy.

Oh yeah, that shit cost me 7€. I was thinking of finding some way to share my complaints with the Finnish publisher and just hope it gets a lot better, because I was all ready to support the release provided the translation was functional and there would be no censoring bullshit

There's a question I've always beem curious about whenit comes to Adventure/Special: How do Pokemon battles work?

My best guess is that if one Pokemon on either team is knocked out then that means they lost, which is why they switch out so much and it helps keep the battles feeling more intense. Am I more or less right or wrong on this assumption?

Generally like the game, however there are also cases where they've specified additional rules. For instance, I think that for the Gym Leader Qualification, Green couldn't let any of his Pokemon faint, but he could switch out when they get weakened.

I think you're wondering what the rules are for Pokemon battles in the manga and that I'm not to sure.

There doesn't seem to be any set rules for Special, although it does seem that whenever one Pokemon on a team gets knocked out that usually means defeat... for some reason.

Also, even in the battle against Red and Green/Blue during the champion ship, they would use more than one Pokemon on the field at once. So, unless it is specified, the rules are "do whatever you can to knock out at least one Pokemon." Or, that's how I see it.

Game Freak doesnt give a shit about the manga, sure, but the game has plenty of elemnts that can be used and kusaka uses those pretty well.
