I tried on my Japanese game, and got a "this code has already been used" error as opposed to something about the wrong region.

The Japanese Darkrai event code was specifically stated to only work on Japanese games, though.

Which would support the idea of this event being region-locked to North America. Otherwise, anyone outside the US would probably be able to get a code from the newsletter too.

Could anybody outside the UK use that Tesco Quick Ball serial code, or the Japanese and Korean equivalents? That would be the most appropriate analogue to this event for comparison.
