In 2002 they managed to do something that had only been done once ever. They recalled a Democratic governor, and replaced him with a solid GOP guy.
What's more, they were able to hold the GOP guy's seat. The governorship was the last domino to fall, I guess.
They managed to totally blow 2010 by running Whitman, and in 2014, the race isn't even vaguely competitive. The nominee is pretty cool, but because of the miles of ground the GOP lost, he doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell.
