There is no worst gen.

Gen 1: Started it all

Gen 2: Refined Gen 1, added more content

Gen 3: Graphic overhaul, introduced abilities, added more to the series to work with.

Gen 4: Graphic overhaul again, more player2player interaction, evolutions to previous Pokemon, created the GTS

Gen 5: Added Triple battles and Rotation battles, shitton of pokemon, Mart and Center in one, and animated sprites.

Gen 6: Huge graphic overhaul, Pokemon Amie, Character customization, more player2player interaction, and added so much for the future of the series to work off of.

There, now stop bitching and like the Pokemon series as a whole you twats.

Gonna have to give to 6. They didn't add much to the series. Leap to 3D was cool and all but gameplay-wise the only things of note were the breeding improvements and mega-evolutions. While it's true that Gen 6 isn't over yet, even comparing X/Y to the other first entries show that 6 is rather lackluster.

The worst gen is 2. Underleveled pokémon, making grinding necessary, most of the cooler new Pokémon isn't available until Kanto, ie when you're almost finished, and Kanto itself is fucking devoid of life, you blow trough it in like 1 hour.

Worth mentioning however is that HG/SS fixed alot of things and is a serious consider for best Pokémon games ever.

It nearly killed the series and they had to make FRLG for life support and bring vack all the Pokemon RS cut off. It was basically a "fuck you" if your favorite Pokemon wasnt in RS and you had nowhere to trade them from, and not being able to trade from GSC when the point of the game was to catch em all was also a big blow.

how rigged is this, when did /vp/ suddenly get /v/-tier taste? 2nd gen is obviously the worst, the level progression and pokemon availability is shit and both Johto and Kanto are small and empty and even HGSS couldn't salvage it much, I was almost burned out on the series by them but then came gen5 and that was cool

Gen 4 also gets honourable mention for the slow-as-molasses game engine that dragged every game in the gen down, but whether or not that alone makes it worse than gen 1 is debatable.

I love BW2 so much. There was just so much to do. You could easily sink 100+ hours into the game and still have plenty of things left to do.

I also think Gen 5 had the most amazeballs designs. Cinccino, Whimsicott, Lilligant, Bisharp, Zorua, Victini, Maractus, Snivy, Oshawott, Simisage, Excadrill, Emolga etc...

Gen 5 was so bad I stopped buying the games after that. It made me cringe so hard, hold hands with "rivals" to take your first steps, forced pokémon dress up, the music had such a soft undertone, everything had to be faggot tier etc. Not to mention ABSOLUTELY NO FREEDOM, no exploration, forced path you had to take with constant interruption of a story at the level of a 10 year old, the game holding your hand way too much

They killed everything I like about Pokémon.

Why do hoenn babies always go into full defense when people bash their favorite? I wouldn't post shit like that even if people hated Gen VI which is my favorite. Nevertheless, it's not really a surprise that Gen III is considered to be the worst by majority on /vp/. Back when it was released, it was so bad that it made me lose interest in Pokemon and I got back into the series many years later when I decided to try Gen IV just for the heck of it and realized that it was much better. My girlfriend also thinks Gen III is the worst and she doesn't even have any nostalgia going on because I introduced her to Pokemon games a little over year ago. Face it, your precious Hoenn isn't that special.

Something I've noticed is that a lot of people either seem to love gen 5 and hate 4, or the opposite.

I've always been a bit curious why. To me, gen 5 took 4's over-designed mess and trimmed the fat to return to a slightly more pokemon-like aesthetic.I went from liking less than 6 pokemon in gen4, to not being able to fit all my favorites into multiple playthroughs.

Is there something mechanics or story wise that I'm missing? I noticed that someone complained about gen5 lacking old pokemon, but that just confused me further. That was one of my favorite parts. Isn't that the point of a new gen? New places to explore with new pokemon? I don't want to use the same pokemon every generation. Plus gen 4 was readily available to supply older pokemon.

It also had really unmemorable new pokemon, where at least 6 had some interesting ones. Its plot was also worse than XYs (though I don't like XY's either). XY had even more obnoxious rivals, at the least.

Why make things more difficult to see just for realism? Why make the bright colors turn to shit muddy textures? Makes waiting around for different pokemon at night fun, right? No it fuckin doesn't.
Gen 3 introduced natures, ton of new moves, some of the best move animations (tied with gen 4), kick-ass pokemon (no fucking babby pokemon), a badass mofo in Steven, the best remakes pokemon ever got (FRLG), and started the post-game content being a huge deal with emerald's battle frontier.
Also what is this poll based on? Music? Graphics? Gameplay? Specify next time OP

How fucking blind are you?

It's plenty bright enough to see anything you could ever want or need to see in Pokemon, even in the darkest environments they ever put in the game it's hardly "too dark to see anything".

I'd go with fifth gen. Every other gen added something new and relevant to the series.

Gen II added breeding and other important mechanics

Gen III added more important mechanics such as double battles and the graphics got a huge overhaul.

Gen IV Improved the graphics again. Added internet connectivity and improved on the battle system by making the physical/special moves split.

Gen V Added two new gimmicky battle modes that are barely used at all except for the novelty of it. Didn't really add any other mechanics and graphics got worse.

Gen 6 Had another big graphical update. 3d battles, character customization, Mega evolutions etc.

no, what was important were timed events, and gen III kept that. plus day/night was shit on GBC, and wouldn't have been much better on GBA. only once the SP with backlight came out would day/night been able to have been good. And this is from a guy who's first game was Gold.

You're thinking about it solely in terms of what new mechanics were added. Keep in mind that every generation brings new pokemon and a new region, too. Gen 4 had unmemorable new pokemon the evolutions were mostly okay though and a region that was just one kind of rock and one kind of forest until snowpoint.

I don't think any gen was bad, but if I were absolutely forced to choose, it'd have to be gen 1, and here's why. Yes, it started everything. Yes, it's nostalgic as fuck. BUT, compared to every other gen, it just isn't as developed. But, for it's time, it was pretty good.
