Smeargle doesn't do jack shit attack wise, that's why its always taunt bait.
But it's also really fragile; 9/10 times it HAS to run a sash, or it'll just die from lots of faster threats.
But yes, a herb smeargle would fuck with that.
And literally only that aside from other random taunt shit. Which as you said is uncommon. Which means the rest of the time smeargle just dies if it leads.
I'm not saying it's uncommon, but crobat can ruin bpass from the start, and very few people counter it well.
