Hi VP i want to get back into the series (only played red/blue) I really enjoy the collecting aspect of the games. If I want to "catch them all" am i best off picking up X/Y?
I there a Pokemon games since red/blue that I should pick up?
I plan to get one of the ORAS games and a 3DS in november

X/Y actually is a great way for people to reenter the series.

ORAS will be coming along, but definitely start with X/Y.

I recommend playing past gens as well. Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, White/Black and White 2/Black 2.

You can get all 719 just with X/Y via trading, but you'll be missing a lot of fun, especially with gen 5. Plus you can transfer all the 'mons to gen 6 if you have two 3DS available.

You can find a TON of pokemon in the wild in XY (even more if you include Friend Safari). Also the GTS is a thing, and people on there are retards. I wish I was lying, but you can put any ditto or breeding reject in there and get any pokemon in return, even legendaries.

So yeah you can easily catch them all with just X/Y

This. May as well catch up with the other gens too. You can pick up HGSS now and beat it by the time ORAS comes out, then continue in order.

After playing X/Y, I find it infuriating to play older games. Some people will say that X/Y made things too easy, but the one thing they did right was give exp for catching pokemon. I cannot understand what made them take this long.

platinum was a chore to get through and now I'm playing heart gold. HG is a bit more fun, but jesus, some of the decisions in older gens bother me.

Often time, it's harder to catch a mon than faint them. Fucking Stantler refused to get in the fucking ball. I just like to be rewarded for the effort.
