It's my least favorite region because holy shit if you don't want to constantly go back to the PC then you gotta carry around two HM whores. It's really annoying. It's a shame because the region had some things I really liked such as Snowpoint, the Lakes, and the Distortion World if that counts.

That comfy snow, the distortion world, the music. Being a rugged mountainous region made it interesting.

I actually like all regions. They've all got things I like.

Kanto has the whole non-linearity thing going on, something the other regions lack. And Celadon City.

Johto has Goldenrod City and the surrounding area.

Hoenn has Fortree City and the surrounding routes.

Sinnoh has that sense of being fuckhuge. And the Distortion World. Though that's technically not part of Sinnoh, heh.

Unova has Castelia City. Have you figured out I like big cities yet?

Kalos has Lumiose City and Laverre City.

Kanto>Johto>Sinnoh>Kalos>Hoenn

Didn't play BW. As a bonus, Kanto>Orre>Johto>etc.

I don't like the newer regions as much as some of the older ones because they feel a bit less realistic. At this point, it's beside the point, but I liked when it felt a bit more realistic like some weird sci-fi post WWIII nuclear holocaust where these pretty simple towns had these weird mutant animals running around. Now it's crazy massive cities with crazy features all over... not complaining, but charming in a different way I find less endearing.

I liked Sinnoh because of the cooler northerly climate, but it was arranged to be so slow and grueling to traverse.

The region I liked the most, shockingly enough, is Johto. My least favorite ended up being Hoenn due to those maze-like water routes and the whole "Dive" mechanic irritating things further. I sort of hope the remakes will streamline Hoenn just a tiny bit, or at least foregoes/redo the Dive mechanic.

Platinum is my favorite game but dia/pearl are at the bottom. I'm glad Gamefreak fixed all the disgusting slow shit and added some new shiny features but it bothers me a little that you can't get murkrow and those other version exclusives

Overuse of Rock Climb/Waterfall to progress or reach treasures on routes, and the slow crawl of the northerly snow routes, and how Mt. Coronet bifurcates the entire continent making you need at least ONE of those HMs at all times.

Of course, this could be said of Hoenn as well which had Dive as the gimmick HM along with constant interchanging between the mach and acro bikes, and how a lot of their water routes are mazelike and easy to get lost in. Hope you like Wingulls and Tentacools with those trumpets.

That said, it's like a preference of climate. Sinnoh's northern wilds over Hoenn's tropical expanse... pick your poison.

It's between the story (Gates being the first pokemon anything that ever had a story that I'd call good) and the reduced grinding that makes me prefer Gates over the other two. Lots more dungeons and pokemon in Explorers/Rescue team, but not enough reason for me to use/explore them.

Anyways, moving on, honestly the only thing that annoyed me about the storyline was the fact that the gates had to be opened with perfectly circular things. I'm not talking about the ones in game, I am talking about the ones you could explore outside the game

Honestly, the concept was good, but sometimes it was a pain in the ass to use. The only thing that fucks with me is when you realize that Hydreigon isn't a boy, I was confused as fuck for a while

What annoyed me is that it felt like it was showing things but not telling them. Didn't see enough misery happening for it to congeal into a world-suffocating entity. Also the parroting slow moving walls of text was a pain.

That being said, it was still a lot better than Explorers's story (except special episodes) which in turn was better than Rescue Team's series of isolated events

That's probably the one thing that the Explorer series did better than this one, they had a pokemon who went berserk with power be the central bad guy. Not some "entity" that was trying to destroy the world but in itself had no real form.

And then children complained about the "difficulty", and you never got trainers with more than 3 pokemon ever again. You also got tiny ass routes that take one minute to traverse.
