My boyfriend went through a really similar situation back in the day as well. His schoolmates would call him "gay" all the time and treat him like shit because of it, even though they had no evidence whatsoever that he was (because he isn't and never has been) - to be honest, I doubt that they actually thought he was gay and more just wanted to beat up on him because... he's really thin, I guess. I'm not sure why else that'd be, I see nothing else that could be depicted as a "flaw".

But not everyone's like that; that's honestly really despicable and I hope that the people who're around you now are better than that. Actually in red and blue if you didn't have Gym badges for a certain level pokes could disobey, even your starters if you got them to a really high level. Thats why later games said "this will let pokemon up to lvl.X obey you, even if you got them in a trade".

Charmander. It was the closest to me and I wanted to get straight into it. I was also a retarded 9 year old who thought that playing Red forced you to start with Charmander (I assumed all three balls had Charmander in them for some reason) because he was on the box. I also thought Blue made you start with Squirtle. I did wonder why I could never find Green, but I thought Venusaur was cool and I assumed everyone else did, explaining why it was never on the shelf.

I played Red on a Gameboy Color, which was better and only used two batteries.

Oh, and I picked bulbasaur. Plants are interesting to me, plus it beats out the first two gyms and resists the third. What's not to like?
