If you want to really immerse yourself in the game there's nothing wrong with keeping a pokemon you got from a character you like, as long as you understand it's not going to be viable against other players.
I'm guilty of raising N's Zorua, despite hating Zoroark's design...But yeah if they're going to use Korrina's Lucario over evolving a wild 3IV Riolu, then try to brag that they're even remotely good at the game... Then I'm with you.
