I think the main reason is storage. having 3 save files with different avatars, progression, Pokemon, and online records would just be too much. also, it would obliterate the value of legendaries and starters. and that's IF you could trade between files.

What really fucks me off is that in BW2 you couldn't progress past the Virbank film bullshit if you were playing without saving because it has a mandatory save, and they completely removed the option in XY. Fucking jews
