This would make too many special attackers OP. It'd be better if it was like a 40% boost. That way it's only slightly better than Life Orb for much more self-inflicted damage.

Water and Ice types are immune to burn status, Electric types can still be paralyzed (just not from electric attacks... There is no reason why body slam from a Snorlax shouldn't paralyze Pikachu), sleep powder/spore affect grass types again... Seriously it makes no sense

Burn cuts physical attack, poison cuts special.

I dont understand why only one of the status affects one of the offensive stats. Is there a balance reason for that I dont understand?

And why is so much hyper offense physical over special?

Most non legendary pokemon have much better physical movepools and also better attack boosting moves. Dragon dance and swords dance are pretty much better than anything for special attackers barring tailglow which is available to about 3 pokemon.
Hyper offense becomes special in ubers, where legendary pokemon have massive special attack and high damaging special moves.

Honestly, special is underrated.
In this meta game almost every pokemon invests in regular defense leaving a wide hole for good special attackers.
Unfortunately the good special attacker options are rather limited.
