My point is that I don't see Smogon rules being forced onto anyone any more than any other popular opinion would be.

At this point, it really does come down to anecdotal evidence, but as a whole, the simple lack of Pokemon tournaments outside of VGC doesn't really give much of a choice, and -completely anecdotal here- there are an awful lot of Smogon players that refuse to play by Pokemon rules, and still enter in Pokemon tournaments. I personally have no problem with other people playing Smogon, I just dislike the rules themselves, and the way they implement new ones, and lots of other things. What I have a problem with however, is the fact that outside of VGC, Smogon is far more common than Pokemon, when it really has no business being so, and should essentially just be a niche for the people who go on Smogon itself.
I personally like /vp/ Gym Challenge rules the most, 3v3 flat, No Legendaries, Swords Dance and Nasty Plot is banned from M-Lucario, Power-up Punch and Seismic Toss from Mega Mom, and Perish Song from M-Gengar.
Simple, balanced, and allowing for almost any well thought out team to win, but I digress.
