Really, the main problem that he has with Contrary is that a near hard counter exists in the form of talonflame. He can be bulked up to at least take a banded BB, but he loses a lot of speed in the process.

More than anything though, he wants more moves. Bring back the Dragon Pulse tutors, and give him access to Earth Power or Power Gem.

That or just give him a mega. A neat, albeit gimmicky thing about Contrary is that he can use it to pressure defoggers. He gets a free evasion boost, and that one key miss could be all he needs to get rolling.

But it's not. Contrary Serperior would be the perfect screen support. Give it Leaf Storm, Taunt, Light Screen and Reflect and you're good to go. Works pretty decent without Contrary as well; I run mine with Giga Drain instead.

As for a possible Mega, I'd like to see the Mega getting Speed Boost or some other more strategic-oriented ability. I imagine using Leaf Storm as a regular Contrary Serperior and getting the SpA boost and megaing the turn after would be pretty neat.

It'd be a good place to start. Access to Meteors and STAB on D-Pulse or a Coil/D-Tail/Leaf Blade set, not to mention the benefit of more resistances.

SubSeed + Glare + Leaf Storm is an evil set. I used it a lot in Gen 5's Dream World tier, and it tore shit apart. Granted, the meta has changed a fair bit since then, with new counters like infiltrator Crobat/Noivern, as well as faster threats like Greninja and Talonflame.

Still, no one Pokemon can take on entire teams. Pair it with a hp fire Gothitelle to remove Venusaur and Ferrothorn, plus a bulky water to handle revenge killers, and Serperior would be able to sweep pretty easily.

for real though, even if it got a grass/dragon mega, it wouldn't get draco meteor - just look at ampharos

the best it could get in a single move is earth power - a set of leaf storm, giga drain, earth power and hp ice hits everything except talonflame, which is gonna fuck you up even if you could hit it for super effective

a mixed av set with superpower could also be fun if it got that

eh even so you get to hit with regular leaf storm twice and a +2 one once. If it got a sp atk boost from its mega coming off a 130 base damage move with STAB. Sounds pretty good to me. Plus you can leech sub shenanigans really well after speed boost.

For Draco Meteor of course.

Grass/Fire with Overheat or V-Generate is more unique and might be workable but it is more out of left field really.

I was actually hoping that Mega Sceptile was gonna be Grass/Electric because I though it would be neat. I was really hoping that the seeds on its back would turn out to be tesla coils. I mean the thing did learn electric moves - I was proven half right that they would expand on its electricity moves and was somewhat disappointed they went with dragon.

Grass Electric woulda been neat too - Weaknesses would be reduced to being Poison, Ice and Fire, while resistances sit at Water, Grass and Electric - with no x4 weaknesses.

Actually, Grass/Fire could work. Serperior is based on French royalty, and may draw inspiration from King Louis XIV (known as the Sun King) in particular. If you play up the Snivy line's associations with sunlight, you could actually get away with a Grass/Fire Mega.

With the stats being retconned to the average starter sets from other regions would be a good start for it.

Retconned Earthpower from tutors is all it needs, and maybe a mega that keeps its HA.
So a Leaf Storm, Earth Power, Dragon Pulse and HP Fire / Substitute would be more effective.

Most monotypes tend to be terrible. Fairy is really the only type that can get by as a monotype without the benefit of fuckhuge stats backed by a god-tier ability.
Serperior also has the disadvantages of a shitty movepool and terrible stat distribution.

Steel and Fighting can also get away with monotype, though pretty much every other mono type mon is doomed to mediocrity if they don't have a huge BST/Movepool/Ability.

There's only four fully-evolved mono-Steel types. One is a Mega, two are Legendary, and the last is Klinklang. None of them are OU.

Conkeldurr is the only mono-Fighting type in OU, and it still has rather high stats backed by three very usable abilities. Machamp and Mienshao also have impressive stats alongside really good abilities, but can't quite keep up with dual-typed competitors.

Meanwhile, Clefable makes OU without a single stat at or above 100.

The biggest disappointment I've ever had in a Pokemon. I thought Snivy really had a chance at dethroning Sceptile as my favorite line...

Then it turned out to be Meganium 2. I never boxed a starter til gen 5.
