Help /vp/, it's Kalos all over again.
I can't decide who to choose for my ORAS playthrough. They're all so well-designed and make top-bro material. I can't choose.

Blaziken was my bro in my original Sapphire run and I was pretty happy when I saw him get a mega. But then the other two got megas too...

Sceptile looks like a badass and seems very powerful competitive-wise. Even though this will be for the story, he'll be great with my second choice for my team, Minun. Or maybe Cosplay Pikachu.

Swampert is just bro-status in every way. He looks like the type of guy who'd you hang out with every friday night. He'd be the guy who'd help you with your broken car. His mega is so goofy yet...awesome.

Who do I choose? I'm stuck between three awesome choices...

Gen 1 was the closest thing to even that there is.

Gen 2 Typhlosion and Feraligator were far above Meganium.

Gen 3 Blaziken and Swampert above Sceptile. If ut wasn't weak to grass at the time or could resist it's main STAB you were going to switch it out.

Sinnoh Infernape can OHKO either of the other two but all 3 are still usable in game and fun in their own ways.

In Unova sadly Samurott was the top dog while Emboar came in second. Serpeior was and still is a shit till Contrary and even then it'll need more moves.

Kalos is Greninja, Delphox, and Chesnaught.

This is all from a general usability perspective.

Half of the time in a Pokemon game I'll choose the Fire starter. The other half of the time, I choose Grass. (Honestly the only time I choose Fire is when Fire is painfully hard to get, like in Sinnoh, or because I have a good name for it, again like in Sinnoh, but also Unova).

I can't help OP here though. I picked Treecko in Sapphire, but I picked Torchic in Emerald. I liked both of them, and really liked Blaziken's use of Flying moves. Helped me gain the advantage against other Fighting-types many times, especially since Swellow is kind of shit, as far as regional birds go. Second only to Unfezant in least favorite birds (female is alright, but holy shit those pinkbrows on the male).

Honestly, it'd have to do with the rest of your team. The choice for me rests purely on whether I want to use Ludicolo on my team or not, taking up my slot for a Grass-type.

Sceptile is not going to be good as a Mega. It will die. Regular Sceptile will equally receive the dick as it has since the start of gen 6. Accept the Game Freak dick. Love the Game Freak dick.

What the fuck is it going to learn that could possibly save it with that terrible typing in the current meta? As stated in the Abomasnow thread it has nothing going for it in terms of not having some other Mega that can OHKO it without flinching and it won't even be able to take a Draco Meteor FFS. Grass.Fairy would have been a better typing but now it is going to sit there and MAYBE (and that's a big maybe) play support mon? But with Lightning rod? Best I can see it doing is supporting a DD Gyarados in Doubles.

Trust me anon: I love using unloved mons but the movepool just isnt there. I cannot imagine what GF could give with what we currently have to make it good.

I haven't even the faintest clue what sort of NEW moves could be invented that it could use either. Singles is honestly where it'll get more usage imo.

Its biggest threats are Ice, Flying, and Fairy. If Fairy was resisted by Grass then it'd be a godsend.

My apologies. It needs a Special Rockslide or a Special Rock attack with Priority. If the first Gym gave you that TM than M.Sceptile will be more than usable.

Azumarill's a popular one, gets demolished. You've got me with Gardevoir, but Mawile won't really like taking a special attack, especially if Sceptile /does/ get Earth Power.

252 SpA Life Orb Sceptile Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 36 SpD Mega Mawile: 147-174 (48.3 - 57.2%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO

Used LO because we don't know what Sceptile's SpA will be, and it'll probably be at at least +1 anyway.

Can't think of any other popular faeries.

Also Dragon is actually the second worst threat after Ice's 4x. Claws/Meteors etc.

Inb4 the Pachifagsu/Sceptile "muh bros 4life" doubles. Also inb4 Se Jun loses with this team at World. J/k Se Jun is too paranoid to run Pachi again.

Not in high levels of play, really. That means you generally have to use Abomasnow when you have better things to be doing and better weathers to be using, like... any other weather. Especially sun and rain.

Scarf dragons are a thing, to be sure, (assuming Sceptile doesn't get a massive speed boost or something), but Sceptile's faster than 'mence even in its base form, dude.

Mixmence is not really a thing in VGC, by the way. They're almost always entirely special.

Again, Scarf Dragons are all you really see at VGC with the exception of the few Choiced Chomps. As for Mixed Mence I specified Mixed Mega Mence. Mega Mence will most likely be faster than M.Sceptile. It will also be packing Aerialate which will either be used with Hyper Voice or Thrash/Return/Double Edge.

Mega Sceptile will see more use in Singles and not to the best of effects. Sceptile is still Karen-tier as far as competitive use is concerned.

Overall EVERYONE would like for all the Megas to be fairly even but Sceptile is getting the short end of the stick: Lightning Rod was NOT wanted considering he was going to be getting a 4x resistance to Electric with it's new Grass/Dragon typing.

What Sceptile needed was a unique ability all its own. Lightning rod isn't doing IT any favors and it certaintly isn't known to be a bulky support mon.

I agree that Lightningrod isn't that good, and Adaptability or something would've been way better, but it's not like Sceptile'll be shit or useless. Fuck, I don't even really /like/ Sceptile (I prefer Venusaur), but I still see some definite potential there.

Alright let me spell it out for you: Dragons are common enough in VGC to warrant packing Dazzling Gleam. The mon using it doesn't have to be a Fairy. Check the list I linked earlier if you have trouble imagining one of those mons being used in VGC because nobody expected Pachirisu to help win Worlds.

You made no point other than what I pointed out previously: I gave my reasons why it would be favorable to use. I stated that it will prob not see more usage than Mega Char or Mega Ttar. Sceptile will still be OHKO'ed by ANY Abomasnow's Ice Shard. It also walls Swampert if you actually read this which would be desireable if Rain gets out of hand BECAUSE of Mega Swampert.

It will be BTFO by any SE priority just like Mega Lucario was at Worlds. The primary difference will be that Sceptile will be able to do LESS than Lucario.

Pachirisu was a special case, however. Pachirisu fit his team perfectly and was a natural, albeit unorthodox, addition. Pachirisu is also not really common enough to be considered shit if you are beaten by it, though people are hopping on the bandwagon by now, I'm sure.

Question: Does it wall the Swampert if the Swampert packs Hammer Arm?

How is Mega Lucario BTFO by SE priority when it has priority of its own? It might not always win, that's for sure, but it stands a chance.

Also, is strong, SE priority taking you out that much of a surprise to you? Pretty sure you take a pretty damn good chunk out of Yache-less Garchomp, too, who also can't kill Mega-Abomasnow with anything and will die to Blizzard.

Also, if Sceptile gets a bit of a defence boost, say about +20, it can still theoretically survive Mega-Abomasnow's Ice Shard.

SE Damage on a mon with Shitty defensive is a death sentence. Sceptile will most likely get its primary stats boosted: Attack, Sp.Atk, and Speed.

Hammer Arm on a Swift Swim mon isn't something to be desired. Also Mega Swamper is going to want Waterfall, E.quake, and Ice Punch for certain. Rain Dance is optional to reset Rain and regain speed. Of course Hammer Arm will be there but it will only be there for Mega Abomasnow IF that (since you're saying it won't be used why even pack it). I acknowledge that a Swampert can do damage to Abomasnow. Not many mons CAN'T.

Re-watch Worlds to see how much a Mega Lucario can get done if it leaves itself exposed on turn one. Hell I'll save you the time and just tell you to rewatch the final matches between Se Jun and Jeudy. Gardevoir tanks an Adaptability Bullet Punch and Mega Lucario is knocked out right after. Mega Lucario can't eat a Mach Punch either. Also my point wasn't that Mega Lucario is in any way useless but rather than Mega Sceptile and even regular Sceptile are nowhere near as usable as Fighting Puppy.

It hasn't even had the chance to prove itself as a mega yet, i don't get how you guys can base it off what we have now when we will obviously get more moves and a much needed stat raise, i mean sure his ability is something to be desired but shit maybe it will have some uses, what about electrify from heliolisk? they had to have given that ability to it for some reason.
i'm not defending it just because it's my favorite starter but because i believe it deserves a little more love
