Lets say, in Gen 5, we had Pokesav
With that, we edited saves and manipulated pokemon on the party or boxes
One could change their natures, their IVs, their EVs, their moveset, whatever, and create pretty illegal combinations, like Wondertombs.
Many of these were caught immediately by illegality checkers, even GF's own
And some illegal stuff was caught by simply changing an IV, and leaving it at that... because pokemon IV's ~ Natures come in a combo from a spread list
For each 'frame' of the game there's a spread of what the pokemon you met in that frame would have
lets say a frame is
Hardy 0 31 12 17 21 4
another frame is
Timid 31 0 31 5 7 2
When you meet a Pokemon, its stats are defined by that frame. Frames are different by game, in Emerald frames were counted from 0 since booting (making landing on a certain frame being a matter of counting time, lets say, in my Emerald the first shiny frame was at 45.35 seconds), whereas other games had other methods of moving frames (not based with time)
Frames/Spreads were basically the product of the RNG.
Now, changing an IV then could lead to a non-existant frame, so people when changing IVs/Natures had to look in a very huge list for a frame that matched that Pokemon, making it feasible
I don't know how that shit works in GenVI
