>>20689835The problem with mega blastoise is its an offensive mega like most of the XY Megas. Normally this wouldn't be bad, but its strongest STAB boosted by its ability is a meager 60 BP, and blastoise's base Sp. Attack is so low, that even with half the Mega boost dumped into it, it's still not that incredible. Meanwhile, it can't rely on its bulk because HP doesn't increase due to being an in-battle form change, and Blastoise's decent defenses dont have room to grow because its pitiful Sp. Attack ate up all the BST.
Blastoise is immune to being power creeped because Gen 1 pokemon AND Water types in general are often very well-rounded to the point of being underspecialized. There's really nothing they could've done to make it better, other than make Beam and Cannon moves boosted by Mega Launcher. Even then I doubt anyone would use Hydro Cannon, though.
