Am I the only one who thinks normal houndoom is better than mega houndoom?

Now, Houndoom has some options that it's mega form lacks, and isn't completely outclassed by it's mega form, but that doesn't make it better. Going mega is a straight upgrade most of the time.

Being able to go mixed isn't as useful as having 140 in special attack with the ability to boost with Nasty Plot. Houndoom doesn't lose any attack, it just doesn't gain any. You could technically run a physical Houndoom, but you would be better of using Absol for that.

I can agree with that. Solar Power is really, really bad. No one uses Sun at all in UU, even for Houndoom. Nasty Plot is better than Sunny Day on Houndoom for obvious reasons, and no one wants to sacrifice a team slot for something with a heat rock.

Flash Fire is amazing for mega Houndoom too since if you switch in on a fire attack, you keep the boost and threaten whatever hit you out.

M-Houndoom don't loss Attack when goes Mega. It keeps its base 90 Attack. Now, if you're talking about holding a Life Orb or something, even with that, you're still unable to 1HKO anything with an attack with a base power is under 120.

It can pick and KO weakened foes, but a lot of other Mons can do that, and better.

Dude, mega-doom has the same atk and higher spatk, def, spdef and spd than regular houndoom. This said it can still go mixed w/sucker punch or knock off while being bulkier, faster and stronger on the special side, as it can just absorb a fire type move and then go mega and wreck shit in the sun with that base spatk.

Solar Power is trash in XY when you have to use Ninetales as your sun-setter. If this was a regular evolution (and therefore eligible to run alongside Mega Charizard Y) it would be incredibly strong.

Why does a dark-type have Solar Power anyway

It can't even run Ninetales to set sun up in UU since Drought and Drizzle are banned there to keep UU from being gen 5 OU lite. Instead it's gen 4 OU lite, but I'm okay with that.
