I'm working on a mono-bug team, and would like some feedback. I know that mono-bug isn't going to win too many matches, but I want to get the most out of it. I am playing on cart, and skipped B2/W2, so I don't have those tutors available. Tell me what I'm doing wrong vp; Life Orb Sweeper Volcarona @ life orb, Nature: timid, 252Spa / 4SpD / 252Spe Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz, Roost, WoW Wounder Guard Abuse shedinja @ focus sash, Nature: adimant, 252Atk / 252Spe shadowsneak (lv 38), X-Scissor, wow, heal block / protect / swords dance Defog / As close to a special wall as a bug can get Scizor @ mega, abi: technician, 252 hp / 4 def / 252 Spd Roost, Defog, Bullet Punch, Knock off / X-scizor / other coverage Rock Stab / Physical attack and "Bulk" Armaldo @ Leftovers / Expert Belt?, Ability: Battle Armor Nature: Adamant (+atk, -spa) / Impish (+def -spa) / Careful (+spd / -spa), Evs: 252 HP, 200 Def, 56 SpD Rock Slide, Aqua Tail / Aqua Jet, X - Scissor, Super Power / Rapid Spin This guy needs some special help. Should I use aqua tail and super power, or aqua jet and rapid spin, or something else? He can't have all of them because of breeding and tutors. Lead? / Electric Stab Galvantula @ dunno, Ability: Compound Eyes, Nature: Timid (+spe, -atk), Evs: 252 SpA / 4SpD / 252 Spe thunderbolt, sticky web (if I opt for the choice item that Yanmega is not using this will be Energy Ball, or HP), volt switch, bug buzz Choice Sweeper Yanmega @ choice somthing, Ability: Compound Eyes, Nature: Timid (+spe, -atk), Evs: 252 SpA / 4SpD / 252 Spe Bug Buzz, Air Slash, U-Turn, Shadow Ball / Ominous Wind / Hidden Power

You're gonna need something for all the talonflames.
Anonymous
>>20698844 Can you recomend a bug that can beat talonflame?
Anonymous
You can do better than that Scizor for tanking special hits. Use something bulky with an Assault Vest, like Escavalier.
Anonymous
>>20698873 I say Crustle. He should tank a brave bird pretty easily.
buttscab !!TORtoOQMEfy
>>20698534 As long as you battle people younger than you you should do just fine.
Anonymous
>>20698873 Armaldo should do fine.
Anonymous
>>20698897 OK, who should run defog then?
>>20698921 Should I replace Armaldo with crustle?
>>20698921 Uh, thanks.
Anonymous
>>20698534 I use a 252hp balkmaldo with an assault vest on cart and he does some justice
Armaldo @Assault Vest
252hp/252Atk/4SpDef (more specific spreads for whatever scenario you prepare for)
Nature: Adamant
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
-X Scissor/Cross Poison
-Knock Off/Rapid Spin
I've tried aqua jet, and while it's a priority move, it just hits so underwhelmingly.
Anonymous
>>20698933 >>20699025 Thanks for the set! How do you feel about superpower and aqua tail? Not worth the effort, or is the coverage important?
Anonymous
Don't be afraid to run Thunder on the Galvantula if it had Compoundeyes. That makes up enough accuracy and even with the gen6 nerf the damage helps
Anonymous
>>20698934 I think Crustle might be the only bug Pokemon that can switch in on a Talonflame and kill it after taking a 2nd bb/fb.
Anonymous
>>20698534 You also have other options like Scolipede and the 2 other Mega Bugs. I'd like to ask why you aren't running Quiver Dance on Volcarona though.
buttscab !!TORtoOQMEfy
>>20698934 Hell, no. Armaldo is a bro, why would you ditch him?

>>20699050 Aqua tail/superpower isn't compatible with knock off. Aqua tail gives a little more coverage, but it can't be Kalos Native. I personally dislike Superpower as the attack drop doesn't sit with me on a bulky mon who's meant to have staying power. Knock off is good if you want the utility of removing items and hits that 120bp on the first hit. It's really personal preference.

>>20699065 OK, should I drop armaldo, or someone else?
>>20699092 I don't have a pinserite, I have considered some of the other bugs but they didn't sick, you are totally welcome to suggest that I swap one of them out for a different Mon. I don't QD just because it has never worked out. I always had to switch out after I boosted or was KOed immediately. I haven't used it in a long time. I could try again, would I drop wow or roost?
OP
>>20699110 Did you suggest crustle? We are discussing a way to beat tallonflame, ether you or someone else said that is only crustle could reliably take 2 brave birds. I feel like having two bug/rock Mons on the same team would be a liability, but so is runing mono-bug in the first place.

>>20699267 Plenty of defensive bug types can take 2 Brave Birds, like Forretress and Shuckle.
Jesus, why can't you think for yourself?

I first and only Ba-Bump. Now that I'm mostly ludic I can see all the quoting mistakes I made, oops. Here is what we(you all) have come up with so far; -Replace thunderbolt with thunder -Replace wow / roost with QD -Don't bother with Armaldo's tutor moves -Crustle could make a better physical wall, and escavalier would be a better special wall, maybe find space for them

Try some of these. I used the below when I was the bug gym in the eternal mono tournament/gym challenge. >>20704324 Cool, thanks. I'll take these into account, do they have any special synergy or combos?
Anonymous
>>20704590 well there's no baton pass or hazards or anything like that, but each one does a really nice job of setting up as revenge killers.
If you know your opponent has a mon out with rocks, when your current guy dies, send in Crustle. Opponent will use rocks on him, activating WP while you shell smash. You can sweep through a few guys with 3x attack (as long as the opponent doesnt have priority)
similarly, volcarona should be sent in on someone weak QD while taking a hit. The red card will switch out for something random, and you can sweep from there.
etc etc
OP
>>20706575 OK, cool. The red card passes the Quiver Dance on to the Mon it switches in?
Anonymous
>>20706825 Red Card causes the pokemon ATTACKING the pokemon HOLDING the card to be switched as if it was hit by Roar, etc.
The Volcarona remains in, with a QD boost.
Anonymous
>>20707553 On a side note, if you're in against something that can't KO Volcarona, you can expect the opponent to switch to something that will rip your face apart instead of uselessly attacking. Prepare for Choice Banded Azumarill Aqua Jet.

Sticky web works good to offset Mega Heracross' speed drop, so that's a good start. You'll want Galvantula because Ariados sucks, even in NU. Besides, Mega-Heracross is awesome. Shedinja can be a spinblocker if you think you might lose your web. Armaldo, Shuckle, or Crustle can handle Talonflame, and so can packing a stealth rock guy, which Armaldo, Crustle and Shuckle conveniently learn. This gives you a nice defensive core that can wear your enemy down until everything's set up for Mega-Heracross to sweep. Since everyone gets shat on by Stealth Rock, I'd pack a rapid spin guy too, which can be either Armaldo or Forretress.. Don't use Defog. So, here's what I got: Galvantula with Sticky Web Shedinja Rock Bug (Shuckle Armaldo or Crustle, probably Armaldo) Mega-Heracross Maybe Forretress if you need another Stealth Rock or Rapid spin guy. Last slot can be a backup sweeper for if Mega-Heracross doesn't cut it, like Volcarona or something. There we go, bug team!
OP
>>20710312 Cool, thanks. This all makes sense, but why should I avoid defog?

Volcarona works well as a bulky quiver dance abuser. Ditch WoW for it, try investing in defense and HP. Add Vivillion too. Compound eyes makes Sleep Powder super accurate, and it gets stab Hurricane (also accurate thanks to eyes) which also has a 30% chance to confuse. Quiver dance with this one too. Keep in mind quiver dance increases speed, special attack and special defense. It's too good not to use. That scizor isn't doing anything. Give it superpower and u-turn if you're not gonna run a swords dance set. Galvantula needs Thunder. Another compound eyes user. If you give it a focus sash, it should 1HKO a talonflame no problem. Escavelier is my favorite bug. Iron head/mega horn/knock off/Drill run. Give it an assault vest. It's slow but hits hard. Have fun.
