This is true.

But at the end of the day, not taking into account the fact that there were so few new Pokemon introduced (not including mega evolutions) I'd give this gen an 7.5/10. There were a lot of excellent designs and like two *cough*barbaracle's line*cough* shit designs. The rest were average.

I really like most of them. There weren't many forgettable/disliked ones for me by any means. The designs stand out, and each one has its own unique charm. I love Aromatisse and Hoopa, but I cna understand why people tend to dislike them.

Overall, a step up from Unova, especially with the starters and legends. Chesnaught is fucking amazing. The Pokemon this gen feel, for lack of a better word, complete.

Why do people never count Megas? They have new designs, base stats, types and abilities. They have just as much thought put into them as any normal evolution of a previous gen Pokemon but in a new mechanic. They're 6th gen Pokemon.

It's a couple lines of text that takes a minute to write. It takes much longer to conceive the idea, balance the stats, abilities etc. just like a normal evolution.

Your logic honestly sounds like the "roster slot" argument for Smash or any other fighting game.

It takes much longer to conceive the idea, balance the stats, abilities, etc. just like a normal evolution.

Lucha Pikachu is different from regular pikachu, was introduced several gens after, gains a move unavailable to regular pikachu. Surely it must be a new pokemon?

What I don't get is why people are saying Megas AREN'T new Pokemon when they clearly have all of the same requirements and development time of a new evolution of a previous gen Pokemon.

The only difference between Steelix and Mega Gengar in terms of creation and development time is that M-Gengar doesn't have a Dex entry.

Megas SHOULD count when discussing how many Pokemon were added in a generation.

Because Steelix is a species of its own. That's exactly the key difference ya dingus.

The Megas could not exist exclusively apart from its base form but when a pokemon evolves completely, it no longer is its previous evolution but a completely new pokemon.

Megas also can't BREED like most regular pokemon. Other pokemon that couldn't breed are designed to have that quirk or is due to some unknown/unforseen changes in the game (i.e., Nidoking/queen lines being separate genders prior to the introduction of breeding mechanics), legendaries, etc.

Are megas seen in the wild? Even some stone-based evos have been shown to use stones found in nature to evolve (anime), and certain fully-evolved pokemon that utilize some human-assisted evolution could be found in the wild (milotic, poffin or trade-evo, is a wild pokemon in gen 5).

Pokemon that aren't found in the wild were specifically designed to have that trait as well (i.e., Porygon's point is that it was man-made). Fossil pokemon were found naturally in the wild before their "extinction". Megas? Not really. At least not yet.

TL;DR, they just couldn't participate like a REAL member of a family line

Yeah, I do. Even with Pokemon, I like to nickname them and all that jazz. But I am also able to tell the difference between narrative explanations and the time it took people to actually do stuff in the real world.

I am only saying that when people say "only 70 Pokemon in gen 6!" That is wrong, because Megas take the same amount of time to make. The actual number is around 100 just like gen 2. I don't give a shit if people count them as separate Pokemon in the world of Pokemon.

We acknowledge megas took effort, hence many people thinking it's the reason there are so few 'new' pokemon. Since megas don't really work as a completely new pokemon, the Gen 6 roster looks rather thin. Look at pretty much all responses/opinions and even fansites dedicated to megas. Nobody in their sane mind would actually consider megas to be a separate pokemon.

We'll I won't argue against Megas making the Dex look bare, but it sounds like people's personal opinions of whether they like Megas or not. If they don't, fair enough, but what I hear is people calling Game Freak lazy for only making 70 Pokemon. That's the part I disagree with.

i really-really like a lot of them.

Most of them are just okay. JUST okay. Some of them are the worst designs in the franchise.

The legends are cool, but the starters are disappointing, worse than gen five. Pokemon with designs that I enjoy (Pyroar, the fossils) are NU trash. Goodra is absolutely wasted potential.

Volcanion has the potential to be a serious bro if/when I get to use him, though. 10/10 typing and design, probably my personal favorite in the gen.
