What was your first shiny? Besides the Gyarados basically handed to you in 2nd gen.
Also, any tips for catching them? That gyarados is literally the only one I've had.

You use powersaves to make a back up of your sav file and keysav looks at the egg's shiny value and IVs, nature, species etc(kinda like pokecheck). Each person has their own TSV(shiny value) and if you find some one with a TSV that matches the sv of your egg it will hatch shiny when they hatch it for you.

The only problem you might have is if you want all your pokemon to have your OT. Who ever hatches the egg for you will be the OT but everything else is completely legit.

Basically the goal is to make your list of eggs for people to hatch for you and then hatch eggs for people that need your help getting their list hatched.

We used to have instacheck threads a lot on 4chan but most of the people have migrated to the reddit group, which isn't as bad as people who hate reddit would make you think it is.

It's the easy way to get shiny legit pokemon that isn't hacked like if you just use the shiny cheat on powersaves. Unfortunately you have to have other people hatch your eggs for you so you can't have the pokemon you get back have your OT. If you don't care about the OT then it's the best method to get competitive shinys with out them being hacked.

11 minutes in to Pokemon White on launch day I encountered and caught a shiny Lillipup. Male with a neutral nature. Instant bro for life. It's now a shiny stoutland. That's my first wild shiny. Before that a friend gave me a wild shiny sandshrew she caught because Sandslash is my favorite Pokemon. That was in Soul Silver.

I think Op was asking for a way to get them that doesn't involve cheating

OP there are a few things you can do. Google these

Soft resetting for shinies
Random Encounter Shinies with repel
Fishing chains
Masuda Method
Poke Radar
Friend Safari

And just google shiny hunting guides that don't use cheat devices. You can use GTS but those pokemon are most likely hacked to be shiny so they have no sentimental value at all period

The only real way to get a competitive shiny pokemon is the masuda method. Good luck getting a competitive shiny that doesn't hatch from an egg. You'll need it.

That daycare egg in Crystal that hatches into one of several baby Pokemon has an increased shiny rate. I got a shiny Cleffa from it. If that doesn't count, then a shiny Zubat in Crystal.

I actually killed the Gyarados in Gen II. Because I was a dumb kid I hadn't saved before hand either, so that was that.

I caught a couple of shiny Pidgeys in the same game though, a male and a female.

After that I didn't see a single shiny till I found a Mienfoo in Black. And like everyone else I got a ton in gen VI, I caught a Dugtrio, Ivysaur and Sliggoo and bred a Klefki, Larvitar, Marril and Charmander.

Shiny tentacool during some class at 5th grade.
The hype was real. I also got a shiny dusclops on that save as well. Years later I realised in retrospetctive that I once found a shiny duodo during my Crystal run, but I just thought it was odd so I killed it.

I actually bred my self a magikarp before finishing the fighting gym in crystal. When i got to the gyarados wit a gyarados of my own i felt like i wasted so much time on raising it from that magikarp by farming tauros and meowth.

I've caught every shiny after those two though. I've had a lot of luck with them in 4th gen mostly. Last ones I've seen/caught were a bug catching contest Butterfree and a safari zone Magneton.
