I had some cases of customers (I have a reseller store in a 3rd world country) being confused with this Wii U being just a bump in specs or some halfway model like the DSi, or a Wii with a semiportable screen.
You can't assume all people in the world are tech-savvy, sincerely, the norm is them being stupid techwise, or somewhat clueless.
There was even this kid who seemed (or bragged) to know a lot about games, with his parents in the store, and when talking about the Wii U he was like 'this is a version of the wii that lets you play in the controller not the tv!'
Nintendo is a creative monster when hyping and marketing games, but when it comes to consoles, all attempts since the DSi have been decreasingly effective.
I mean, the N3DS was unexpected and so few fanfare was done about it that mainstream people may thing that at best is a moderate improvement over the 3DS, while in my opinion is far more than that. Nintendo should have hyped such an announcement, teased it, or whatever, to build up the expectation of this being a whole new thing.
