Pretty much this, though I think the design/movie are more around the lines of "okay" - what went wrong? Associating it with MLP and rallying around it to hate it because of something it's not related to any more than any other cartoon horse.

That and its good base speed.

In terms of gameplay, it's amazing. Even the no-Ice-Beam-limit-geas doesn't hinder it too strongly, and makes it a thoughtfully designed Pokemon in terms of moves and stats to prevent blatant OP.

Design looks awful MLP or not it looks shitty.
It's a kelpie apparently so you'd think it'd look more menacing and have water/dark or water/fairy typing.
Also if it's the underling to the musketeers then why is keledeo a water monster and not a deer/goat/antelope thing.
Why weren't the musketeers Kalos's trio?
The 3 musketeers were french and the Pokedex mentions them saving Pokemon during a war so why not?
Stats/typing/movepool is great though.
