Got blue for christmas 1998. Played til ruby, got serious, quit because noone to play with anymore. Got soulsilver for nostalgia purposes about 3 years ago, only played for the mems. Friends went to XY release, got off work before place closed to prepare for midnight release, thought "Fuck it, buy Y", and got hugely into it again

also for me it was seeing all the kids at school talk about it, I only watched the anime at the time and didn't have a gameboy, I did get an n64 and played the games on those, but I didn't start playing the main games until GS, thought I did play yellow on stadium.

First game on the gbc though was pinball when I finally had got one since GS was right around the corner.

I was really young living in a home for sick kids with my brother and Christmas came around. I rushed downstairs with the other kids to the tree and found my presents. In one of them I got a green Game Boy Color and Pokemon Blue. I spent all night playing that in Viridian forest catching all the Metapods as I could under my covers with the lamp.

Looking back, though, I can see that I fell in love with it because it's animal-based. Since I was a very small child, I've loved animals, to the point where I'm getting my master's in biology now. Nothing interests me more than tromping around a new region, finding new species of Pokemon and exploring how they function.

Parents would buy me random shit like anime and what not, and I guess I was watching Pokemon on the tv and got super into it so my parents (although divorced) bought me Crystal, then they accidentally got me a Spanish version of Red (it;s okay though because despite not being spanish I understood quite a bit of it) then they went on to buy me Ruby, Sapphire, a few SP's, etc, then I stopped for a while because rough time in my early teen years.
Then like a year or two after gen 4 my mom bought me a DS and someone gave me a copy of Pearl.

Fast forward, buy my own things. Bought SS because nostalgia, buy White, hated it, then I stopped.
Then my current s.o. got me back into the series with White 2 and X.

And now we're getting ORAS together on launch day.

So, parents got me into it I guess.

Started playing the game as a kid to play with my friends. After so many years I grew out of it. After a few more years I got back into slightly, only playing emulators. When XY was announced I got a 3DS and this gen I got into competitive and now I play pokemon way too much.

A few episodes of the anime back when I was a kid. One of the more important ones was Go West, Young Meowth; I've been dying for Nintendo to acknowledge Meowth's proper rival status with Pikachu in some form in the games ever since.

There was a boy in the second grade that I had a huge crush on who was way into pokemon. He had red, blue, pokemon stadium and a huge collection of cards and not to mention any piece of pokemon merchandise you could think of. I got into it so we could have something to talk about. I moved after the second grade so I never saw him again, but for some reason pokemon just stuck with me.

My brother played it and since there were two versions, he got Red and I got Blue. Then I got Yellow. When the second Gen came out, he got Gold and I got Silver, and then he got Crystal, to which I remember throwing a fit about (I was still very young, like six, I'm nineteen now) so I got to play that too. Once third Gen came around, he lost interest, but I've remained a Pokemon fan since. Watching the anime also got me into the series too, and I remember watching the films.
