Anyway, theres been lots of talk this week about the trade and giveaway generals and how theyve been discouraging a lot of users from participating. So I thought Id make a poll to gauge /vp/s feelings on the subject.

Giveaway generals aren't a bad thing on the idea itself, which is to reduce the number of giveaway threads and to allow people to reach faster the information about which giveaways are done and how to benefit from them. But while the idea is decent, the execution is really bad.
First, we must take into account how confusing the whole thing is. As every distributor shoves his own structure of distributing via his post(s) and without even caring about what the others are doing, there's no consistency, and thus, people wanting the pokes given away are confused and can't benefit from this thread.
Second, we have the shitposting. A shitposting I expected from the very moment I saw, a week before the giveaway generals began, posts complaining about the giveaways because they "took too much filtering" and because they "took too much place on /vp/", arguments that were both debunked... And whose debunking was immediately shitposted onto. And this shitposting extends to every giveaway thread - The non-generals are shitted on because they refuse to "join the correct thread" while the generals are shitted on because of how easy it is to disrupt things in a single thread than in several.
Now, what I thing the best idea to do of giveaway generals is simple - Don't use them for the giveaway themselves (except small ones), but more as an index of giveaways. People not liking giveaways will only have one more thread to filter (and even them, filtering the words "giveaway" and "distribution" should be enough), while it'll clearly give more clarity to people wanting to benefit from them.
But the shitposting has to go. Report it, ignore it and don't believe what non-OP posters can say about the giveaways.

Pattern: This is the field where you type in what you want to filter out from the board. "Giveaway" is a good example of something that can go here and you wont ever have to see those sort of threads again. As a side note don't bother trying to filter goodra, that faggot will get past it by typing go.odra or some other variation.
Boards: Useful if you browse more boards than just /vp/. If you want to filter your pattern on only one board type in the board here. Its doesnt seem to work if you use "/" so filtering giveaways on only /vp/ would require you to type in "vp" in this field and not "/vp/".
Now make sure you have the boxes that say "on" and "filter" checked and you should be back to shitposting other threads in no time.
P.S.-You can also use this method to make threads you want to see be at the top just do as you would if you were going to filter them but instead of checking the "hide option" check the "top" option.

Just highlight the stticky's name and then copy (Ctrl +C) then paste (Ctrl +V) it into the Pattern field. After that proceed as if it were any other thread. Hope this helped!!!
